It’s Fashion Week!!  Designers are showing their Fall/Winter collections for the last time at Bryant Park.  Although, NYFW has been in the tents at Bryant Park since 1993, things are a bit different this time around as more designers decide to stream their fashion shows live to the masses.

This trend was covered in detail in WWD yesterday.  The article discusses the myriad of ways in which designers are using social media to reach the public and, ideally, increase sales.  As Diane Von Furstenberg says:

“Ignoring the Internet is total madness.  Being active on the Internet is indispensable to growth and for being relevant. It helps your business to be truly global and truly multigenerational.”

I thought the G-Star show was great. I like that more shows from around the world are available to stream on the internet. As a SCAD alum and current marketing director for a company that produces labels and hang tags for fashion designers (New York Custom Labels), I can say that internet and social networking proficiency is a must for today’s designers.
