Fashion Illustrator: Nuno DeCosta

Nuno DaCosta for Louis Vutton

Nuno DaCosta

I love it when I stumble on an amazing illustrator such as Nuno DaCosta looking at her work on Trendland.net and IllustrationWeb.com makes me want to start sketching, which I will do during this weekend. I will also try my hand at gouche and watercolor, Nuno uses gouches and finishes her work on Photoshop.  I love her  illustrations and illustrations in every way. But I like the way gouche or watercolor paintings  look naturally without any digital alteration. Whatever your preference are just remember to continue to sketch and don’t forget to submit to our annual at the end of this quarter. Just click on the pictures above to go to Trendland or IllustrationWeb.

Put Your Shades On: The future looks bright for fashion illo

Posted in illustrators, inspiration on January 29th, 2011

Blogs are buzzing about Prada’s Spring 2011 sunglasses campaign. Why? Mui Mui’s ditched the typical model & photo formula and, doing as she does best, is branching out creatively. The campaign features the work of 3 illustrators: Ivo Bisignano, Marcela Gutierrez and Andrea Tarella. Their fun and colorful drawings match the whimsical, cartoony feel of the shades themselves. An accessory and illustration match made in heaven.

Fashion Illustration: Out of the sketchbook & into the world

Posted in illustrators, inspiration on January 20th, 2011

Liselotte Watkins is a Swedish born fashion illustrator who studied at the Art Institute in Dallas and has been working in the field since the 1990s. Watkins is the perfect example of fashion illustration, a niche area within the profession of illustration, being successful in varies forms. In the days of Kenneth Paul Block fashion illustrators basically drew the latest fashions and those were seen in publications like WWD, Harper’s Bazaar, or Vogue. The end. Now, fashion illustration is everywhere! On clothes, walls, tv, and more!

Watkins keeps us updated on her latest and greatest projects on her blog: http://liselottewatkins.blogspot.com/. A few examples of her expanding work below:

runway backdrops

adverts

Textiles (ribbon, fabrics, etc)

and something FIC is familiar with…window displays!

Check out more of Liselotte’s work (including some of her animated fashion work!) at http://www.art-dept.com/illustration/watkins/index.html.
