Map

In this project our goal was to make something new out of a map. Initially we were to destroy a map by doing whatever means we chose, but my map seemed rather resistant to any changes short of burning (and I had no matches, nor a lighter). The ink refused to run when I poured water over it and it would hardly stain in tea or coffee. So I ended up tearing my map into pieces, arranged it in the shape of the county I grew up in (Boyd County, Kentucky), and laid tape over it in the shape of the distribution of coal and shale in my county, something that shapes the economy of the place I come from. I also wrote a letter to my hometown and incorporated it into the map (which is of the state of Georgia, the only other place I have lived in my life).

I neglected to take process photos, but I do have a final photograph of my work.
