It would be great to see a school-wide forum available for students to interact with each other so that e-learning students could get to know the on-campus students, and possibly set up project collaborations. Right now it is very hard to interact with other students unless they are willing to friend you on Facebook (some aren’t), and the short-term class forums aren’t set up for social communication.

Will including that discourage someone who would prefer to hire a local? How should you differentiate between skills that you are highly skilled in and those you are just familiar with? How should you organize a resume to de-emphasize career gaps?

Thanks. I’d also love some suggestions on assembling a portfolio, as that’s probably more important than a resume.

What if I asked several hundred doctors to perform a surgery for me just to decide which one would handle my future surgies? Not only is it wrong, it can quite literally put graphic designers who have been working hard to establish a name for themselves out of business.

Does anyone have an opinion on how the NEA’s call for entries is similar to a contest?

If it is comparable to a call for contest entries, which do not compensate for entrants’ work but only winners, then is entering contests beneficial to students?

Mr. Grefe raises some good points about asking artists to work for free in situations like this, and his lawyer metaphor brought the NEA’s request into sharper focus for me. What appeared to be an fun opportunity now looks like a misstep on the part of the NEA, especially since they had a similar conversation with AIGA 1999.

Does anyone disagree with AIGA’s position? Are you willing to work without possible compensation in RFP situations?
