SCAD eLearning student Meredith Randazzo recently drove 400 miles to the SCAD Savannah campus from her home in New Bern, NC, to attend the Comics Art Forum October 22-23, 2009. She learned about the Comics Art Forum through the Sequential Art department blog, SEQA LAB, then contacted SCAD eLearning and planned her trip. At the forum Randazzo found many opportunities to connect with industry professionals; she also took advantage of career resources in Savannah.
Randazzo is a Bachelor of Arts student in visual communications with a concentration in Sequential Art. Although she is a junior, this is her first year at SCAD because she is a transfer student. Asked what she thought of eLearning classes online, Randazzo says: “I’m impressed by the quality of the curriculum and the tools available to eLearners.” She continues, “Taking classes online is important to me as a working artist, and it gives me the flexibility I need without having to relocate my family. SCAD offers more than any other art school online, most importantly, a major in Sequential Art, which is the reason I’ve returned to art school.”
Currently, Randazzo is a self-employed artist. After she completes her SCAD course of study through SCAD eLearning, she hopes to gain experience working in a studio with other creative individuals. Of other notable achievements, Randazzo is a Marine Corps veteran and obtained a B.F.A. in graphic design from the University of Georgia.
Visiting the Savannah campus allowed Randazzo to explore SCAD buildings, meet her professors and advisers in person, and to learn from experienced cartoonists. When asked if she will return in subsequent years, Randazzo confidently states: “My intent is to visit SCAD [Savannah] every quarter for important events in the Sequential Art department.” SCAD eLearning looks forward to assisting Randazzo in future travels, as well as all eLearning students. Anyone interested in visiting the Savannah campus should obtain travel and lodging information by e-mailing ecampus@scad.edu.

SCAD encourages all students to take advantage of events at other SCAD locations when they are interested, and on-ground students are invited to participate in the many resources available online. Students can virtually attend and participate in online workshops, lectures by industry professionals and counseling, to name a few of the services offered.
