This is the body of work that I used as my transfer portfolio when applying to Scad. The work is from my Drawing I class, my Design II class (3d design), and pieces I made outside of class. Click on the photo for an enlarged image and a description of the work.

It was difficult to choose a final compositions because I really liked a lot of the sketches, but with each one that I chose I was trying to focus on a specific characteristic of the line type. I wanted the vertical and horizontal lines to evoke a since of stability visually and I feel that the composition is reminiscent of modernist architecture from the turn of the 20th century. The curved lines were meant to feel much more organic. I think they are also a little funky, meaning that they wax and wane, but because they are curved they still remain interconnected. I wanted the focus of the diagonal composition to be the negative space in between lines, making the point that when two lines run parallel there is also a third line created in the negative space between the two, this is represented by the white lines in the composition. I found it really difficult to combine all the lines in an effective way in the composition where we were required to juxtapose curved, diagonal, and vertical/horizontal lines. I really enjoyed this project.

Hi, my name is Emma and I am currently studying Painting with a minor in Art History here at Scad, this is my second quarter. I think Scad is an amazing place and the facilities are wonderful. One of my favorite places to go is the Scad Museum of Art, last quarter I was able to see Andre Leon Talley installing his exhibit, Little Black Dress, in his name-sake gallery and I was certainly star struck- I can’t imagine another college where I would have been able to have this experience. I am especially excited to see the Yinka Shonibare MBE exhibit Addio del Passato that is now up at the museum, he is one of my favorite artist. I am originally from Rome, Ga and I transferred to Scad last quarter from Armstrong Atlantic which is also located in Savannah. I am looking forward to this class and seeing all of the great work everyone does.

This was from Thanksgiving last year, I was visiting my best friend in New York, I am the one in purple.
