About Duane Cash

Hi, everyone! My name is Duane Cash. I am attending SCAD for my M.F.A. degree in Interactive Design and Game Development. I have a B.S. degree in Information Technology from National American University and a B.A. in English/Creative Writing from the University of New Mexico. I have a wife and 2 children (1 boy and 1 girl). I live in Mountain View, California and I work as an iPhone/iPad/Android developer for Honda R&D Americas researching innovative technologies and applications for future vehicles.

Back in 2003, I invented the Rubik’s Triamese, Rubik’s Fusion/Fusion+, Rubik’s 5×3, Rubik’s 4×3, and the Rubik’s SpeedFusion Cubes that were sold on the Rubik’s website from 2003 to 2006. At that time, I was also working as a self-employed/self-representing artist, selling my acrylic and oil paintings through eBay and other Internet venues. My wife also created acrylic paintings. Together we managed to sell over 1500 paintings throughout the year. Many of our works ended up in private collections, businesses, and some landed in a few small art galleries and even on the cover of a music CD. Some of my inspiration for my paintings came from Rothko, Pollock, Picasso, and Kinkade. We sold paintings for a few years until the market slowed and we had to go out and find “traditional” jobs again. Then in 2006, I discovered the sport of spinning the NSD Powerball and endeavored to do reach the top 100 in the Official World Powerball Scoreboard at www.powerballs.com. I managed to become #8 in the world and the #1 ranked U.S. NSD Powerball Champion by spinning the NSD Powerball to 15,654 rpm.  Recently, I published my first book on Amazon for Kindle.  The book is titled “Janice’s Cats and Other Dark Tales.”  It’s a collection of horror stories.

Before accepting the iPhone developer position at Honda, I worked as an iPhone Developer for Toyota’s InfoTechnology Center in Mountain View.  I also have 2 apps in the App Store.  One app is a game called “Pennies from Heaven” and the other app is a twitter-related app called “Cool Tweets”.  I hope to work on some more apps in the near future.

I am interested in the technologies gesture recognition, augmented reality, mind-control/brainwave technologies, voice recognition and artificial intelligence.  I like to explore how these technologies can be coupled with mobile devices and games to create engaging user experiences.
