The Mobb Line took the South Regional competition of the Chicago Improv Festival’s College Tournament by storm on Saturday. They won their preliminary round and advanced to the finals where they faced 4 other groups, including perennial powerhouses Theater Strike Force from the University of Florida and defending champion Improv Athens from the University of Georgia. In the surprise of the night, Mobb Line upset Theater Strike Force for a second place finish! This was SCAD Improv’s first year in the tournament (and only our second year in existence) and we firmly established ourselves as a major player on the college improv scene.
There’s more! The second place finish has put Mobb Line in the running for a wild card spot in the National competition taking place in Chicago in March. That announcement won’t be made until mid-February, so stay tuned to see if Mobb Line will go to the Nationals in their very first year!!!
Over the course of 24 hours, Mobb Line gave three outstanding performances (with half of the members sick, no less): Friday night at SCAD Atlanta, Saturday afternoon in the tournament prelims and Saturday night in the tournament finals. As luck would have it, all three performances were recorded and we hope to have those available for online viewing in the not-too-distant future.
Congratulations to Mobb Line and everyone involved with SCAD Improv – this is a terrific step forward for our program!
This was a huge weekend for SCAD Improv. In addition to Mobb Line’s performances in Atlanta, alum Maddie O’Hara made her NYC improv debut with Gotham City Improv on Friday night and the “F” in Funny troupe gave two performances at Muse Arts Warehouse. Congratulations to all!
