  • Installed the stand alone license for Craig Kovac’s laptop.  He bought it in yesterday and said that it was missing.
  • Went to help Soha Kabil with her homespace issues.  After she got her new machine, which is on the Active Directory domain now, she could not access her home space.  Phong Trinh informed me that they aren’t moving staff over to AD, but he was able to get her home space files and move them over.  He said that Novel will be around until NEXT December, not this December as we previously thought.  All of her files were moved over and she can now access them.  I also updated the group policy preferences and installed the Avery Label software that she previously had installed on her old machine.

  • Checked Joe Pasquale’s laptop and got the serial number and MAC address for the Nuke install.  I’m sitting it on the rack so that he can pick it up after he finishes class at 1:30pm today.
  • Got the serial number and MAC address from Kirt Witte’s 8510w laptop for the Nuke install.  I’m sitting it on the rack so that he can pick it up later today after the film festival.
  • Sent Rose Ibiama an email requesting the serial number of her laptop.  She replied with it being: 2CE842VT4F 100018779
  • Updated the SFDM staff and faculty inventory and emailed it to Judi Anderson and Dan Hernandez
  • Went to Propes Hall and gave Chutni Brown Hal Miles’ old laptop and the other one she gave me to use for parts.  She will hold on to both of them for any future spare parts use.
  • Checked out machine 120-03, a student put in a problem report saying that it had ink or scratch marks on it.  A student was using it and it looks fine to me.
  • Updated the Adobe Flash player on Ed Kinney’s old laptop.  I will rename it and use it for the Advisor’s that are coming to Montgomery Hall again next Wednesday November 11th.  I will install Jabber and make sure that Banner works as well.  It will need to be renamed as well.  It is currently running the latest Microsoft Windows XP updates.

  • Continued working on Hal Miles’ new nw8440 laptop
  • Got Rose’s, Jessica’s, and Andres’ serial numbers for the machines that they use in the cage and gave it to Dan for the inventory.  I’ll verify the other 8530w laptops as well that are not named correctly.  I know that one of them is Jack Mamais.
  • Emailed Dan Hal Miles’ MAC address from his new laptop for the Nuke install
  • Added Agraml20 and Blandr23 to the ANIM-FIRE CHILD project space as requested by Tiara L. Horan.
  • Assisted Zuzana from the Physical Computing class with a problem she is having with her project.  It was an error on her part and she figured it out after messing with it for a while.
  • Installed Stop Motion Pro versions 5 and 6.5 on Hal Miles’ laptop.  I replaced his internet favorites on his profile and tested everything out under his log in and it looks good.  He came by and looked at it, I let him know that he can pick it up later on today and that it will be waiting for him.

  • Went to room 311 with Charles DeCosta and hooked his laptop directly into the projector so that he could teach class from his Mac Book Pro.  I will removed it and hook it back up at 10:30am when his class ends.
  • Received an email from Randall S. Simon about his project space request.  He never gave me any other information besides his and his group members net id’s when he requested a project space.  I let him know that I needed a lot more information than just net id’s in order to fill his request.
  • Replied to an email from Dom Elliot saying that Acrobat Distiller is asking for an admin name and password.  I let him know that he can bring it in and I will check it out.
  • Created a 40gb project space for William Schilthuis called VSFX-PROJ235 and added McKendree Poston as a group member.
  • Installed the Wireless assistant and set up the SCAD wireless on Larry Valentine’s 8510w laptop.  I had to do the same thing on Hal Miles’ new laptop as well to get the Blue Socket page to come up to access the SCAD wireless page.  To do this, all you need to do is go to the wireless network connection properties, check the box that says ” Connect even if this network is not broadcasting”, then disable the data encryption while keeping the network authentication on OPEN.  Works like a charm.
  • Placed the extra 512 stick of memory in Hal’s new laptop, bringing it to a total of 1.5gb of RAM.  Installing CS4 on it now.  I also removed the Zen Works and Novel Clients from the laptop as well.  This will increase the speed starting up and accessing applications.  It will be placed on the Active Directory Domain, I’ve already emailed Christian Windebank requesting that he add it to the SFDM OU.
  • Addressed a problem report from Tiara L. Horan about one of the group members not being able to access the project space called Fire Child.  I requested the students net id so that I can add her to it.  I added Agraml20 to the Fire child project space.
  • Received another email from Randall S. Simon with the information needed for the project space that he requested.  It is a 40gb project called ANIM-FIRE HYDRAS, I will email him when I am done creating it.
  • Closed out the ticket for picking up Hal Miles’ laptop from Chutni Brown at Propes Hall.  It was ticket # 27422
  • Created a step by step list of instructions on how to install all of the Physical Computing class software on the SFDM forum.  It also notes how to test the software with the Logitech camera to make sure that it works with the applications.
  • Running all of the Microsoft updates that are needed for Hal Miles’ new laptop.  The image is a bit old, there are a lot of security updates that needed installing for the OS and for the Office 2007 software.

  • Went up to the 4th floor and checked the machine in the BCST’s chair’s office.  I checked the machine in the conference room as well, but neither of them matched the one missing.  Bob Duncan has 2UA930177C/ 100021327.
  • Went to Propes Hall and picked up Hal Miles’ replacement nw8440 laptop.  I’m putting our image on it now.  I am removed CS3 now and any other apps that are not needed or that need to be updated.
  • Checked with Betty Bridges about the printer that was ordered for Jeremy Moorshead per Pat Canady.  There is a hold on them industry wide and the ETA for laser printers is Mid November.

  • Created a 4gb project space called VSFX-HORUS for Patrick Siren.
  • Deleted the shortcuts for CS3 from Hal Miles’ laptop and installed CS4.  Began the installation of Stop Motion 4.5.  I had to email Digicel for the registration code and it should be sent back soon.  Called Chutni Brown to see if she still had the broken 8240 laptop in hopes to take the memory out of it and put it in Hal’s 8440 to speed it up.  I will stop by Propes Hall and pick it up later today.  The CS4 install did not complete on the 1st attempt, I had to restart the laptop and finish the Flash and Indesign installations because they failed for some unknown reason.
  • CNRF# 5545 has been approved and is in purchasing.  It is for the 2 Arduino boards that will be used for the Physical computing course.
  • Went to Propes hall and picked up the spare 8240 and removed the RAM from it.  Picked up Steve’s 40 Sata cables and DVI cables as well and brought them back to Montgomery Hall.
  • Had Hanwei Wu take and set up the replacement Z600 machines for Rose Ibiama and the ITGM machine for Charles Shami and Ari Cookson.  Their old machines were bought back to the systems office for safe keeping until we re-image them and put them back out for use.
  • Hal’s machine was still running slow and not cooperating, so I ran PQ magic on it to completely wipe the drive clean and then reimage it again.  If this doesn’t work, nothing will since this is a complete purge of everything on this drive.
  • Chutni Brown called me and said that she now has another 8440 that she will assign to Hal Miles to use instead of the one he currently has.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
  • Created a 100gb project space for Art Novak called ADVE-NSAC.  I had to create an expiration txt file since it is the only project in the Advertising folder.  I’ll email him letting him know after I add him and the other 12 group members to the project space.
  • Sent an email to the work study and staff about the inventory in Montgomery Hall.  There will be new steps to be taken when a machine is removed out of any of the labs.  Listed here is what I sent:
*** Put a note on the machine stating where it came from/what's wrong with it
*** Write it on the board
*** Place them in the server room if it has to stay in the Systems office if it is not being plugged in.
*** Create a problem report that you are currently working on it and why.

  • Render Nodes 123-127 and 144-150 were all down this morning.  Wes Garcia came in and swapped out the Tripp lites that these nodes were on.  Once he is finished, I will reset them and get them back up and running again.
  • Continued working on Hal Miles’ 8440 laptop.  It is still freezing up on me and not letting me uninstall CS4.  Word and Acrobat still crash at times when I log in with his log in.
  • Finishing the Faculty and Staff inventory list, a few more of the professors emailed me their asset tags to add to the list.  Steve emailed me the list for the Macs to add as well.  After editing and making corrections, I emailed it to Dan Hernandez to make any changes that he saw it might need before sending it back to Bob Duncan.
  • I finally emailed Hal Miles and let him know that his 8440 laptop is pretty much screwed.  I offered to wipe it clean and re-image it for him and he agreed.  He said that he already backed up all of his documents, he just wanted me to back up his favorite links in Firefox which I did.  After performing an exorcism on the possessed machine, it seems to be running smoothly now.  I will uninstall CS3 and install CS4 and the rest of the Stop Motion apps that he needs before giving it back to him tomorrow.
  • Created a 50gb project space for Tiara L. Horan called ANIM-FIRE CHILD and added the requested members as well.  I emailed her reminding her of the expiration date and that it is available to use now.

  • Worked on the inventory for Montgomery Hall.  I went to the 4th floor and checked every chair, admin, and professor’s laptop and desktop station and checked the serial numbers and asset tags.  For those that did not have their laptops here, I am sending them emails requesting the asset number and serial numbers.
  • Created an Admin user account for Andrew Hieronymi on the MONT-HIERON machine that will be for his Physical Computing class.  I will send him an email requesting to use his students Arduino board to install the necessary drivers and to test out the machine before issuing it to him.
  • I’m uninstalling CS4 and all of the Adobe Products from Hal Miles’ laptop.  It is still freezing up on me and files for these programs seem to be corrupt and slowing the machine down significantly.  It is taking it a very long time to remove them even with me logged in locally.
  • Checked on the Mo Cap machine for Rose Ibiama, it is still in the Systems Office.  ViconIQ 2.5 is installed, I’ll place it in the Motion Capture room later on today.
  • Andew Hieronymi came down and saw the new Physical Computing machine that was set up for him.  He said that he will come back around 4:30 after his class let out and I will take it upstairs to his office to install the Arduino drivers.  He is able to log on and it is set up at his cubicle, he will let me know if there are any issues.
  • Got an email from Dan to add Tim Hisel to the Faces in Places project space, but he is already a member.  It also stated that Tim needed to be added to Sandro and Luke’s project, but it did not provide the name of the project space.  I replied back asking for the name of it.  I found that it was VSFX-STUDIO1 and added Thisel20 to it as requested.
  • Checked the printers on the 2nd and 1st floors, got a problem report that they are acting up.  The 2nd floor 4250 is only printing half or bits and pieces of documents.  The 1st floor printer gives a print error and doesn’t do anything.
  • A student came in saying that she cant use the large scanner on the 4th floor.  The students that work in the cage said that only an admin can use it with Photo shop.  I’m going up there to check it out and see what’s up with it.  It was working fine when I checked it, she said that it was unplugged, but it wasn’t.  I tested it with Photoshop with my and the Fneagl20 account with no problems, then had her try with her account and it is working properly.

  • Turned on the Tripp lite box that powers render nodes 123-127, and  then reset Render Nodes 144, 145, and 148.  I sent Wes Garcia an email letting him know that the tripp lite box went down again over the weekend.
  • Added Clint Heusser to the VSFX-Faces In Places project space.
  • Created a 15gb project space for Scott A. Vanarsdale called BCST-THIS SIDE UP.  Added the requested group members and then emailed him letting him know that it was completed and ready to use.
  • Cleaned up a few areas in the Systems Office to prepare for the Dream Works tour that is going to be today.
  • Checked out a spread sheet that was sent from Dan to me that has every faculty and staff machine in Montgomery Hall.  I am to verify each asset assigned to the individual on the list and create a list of the software & version installed on the machines.  It will be completed by Wednesday morning.
  • Hal Miles dropped off his nw8440 laptop again on Sunday.  The note reads that nothing is really working as it should.  I will check it out again and see what I can do to get this defunct. machine working properly until he is issued a new one.  I’m currently running a diagnostic test with Office 2007 since it will not take the update for Word 2007 that is available and needed for it according to the Windows update web site.  I had to uninstall Office 2007 again and now I’m installing SP-1 to see if it takes.  If so, I will try SP2 afterwards.
  • Began imaging an 8400 for Andrew Hieronymi, it will have all of the latest Processing, WinVdig, Logitech drivers, Arduino, and Quicktime Software for his Physical Computing class.  I will have it done by this Friday October 30, 2009.
  • Received an email from the Help Desk tech support confirming that the HP Laser Jet 4250 printer in room 432 is now on the Zenserv2/IPrint page and can be added as a network printer.
  • Helped Krysztof Rost from Dream Works prepare for his presentation in room 110 for Pat Helbig.  I loaned him markers for the drawing board provided and sat in the presentation for the first 10 min to make sure everything is running smoothly.
  • Reported a spill in room 112 to Anthony Dergham, I couldn’t find the custodian to have it taken care of, but he will get it resolved.
  • Emailed Wes Garcia back letting him know that we can replace the tripp lite tomorrow morning if he is available.  He asked when would be a good time to change the bad ones out with new ones.  We will change them out on Wednesday Morning.
  • Received a reply from Shannon Agee Curcio about the HP certification.  She said that she is working on a procedure for techs that are not certified to get it in.
  • Completed the imaging and installation of the Processing, Arduino, Logitech drivers, and Winvdig software on the MONT-AHIERON machine.  After emailing Christian Windebank, he added the computer to the Active Directory domain for me.  Processing is working fine, I will test out the Arduino software when I either borrow a students or the professors Arduino board.  I updated the inventory with the new name for the machine and will have Andrew test it out before issuing it to him.
  • Replaced the chairs from room 110 back to room 108 and 109.  Hooked the projector back up to the teachers station in room 110 for Kirt Witte and will have Lance and John stand the table back up.
  • Talked to Chutni Brown about Hal Miles’ nw8440 laptop.  I wanted to get one from her give to him until he gets a brand new one, but she doesn’t have any available.  She told me to let him know that he will need to have his chair complete a CNRF for him requesting a new laptop.
  • Created a 4gb project space for Dave C. Lewis called VSFX-Final Group Project and added all of the students.  I emailed him and noted it in the problem report.
  • Hal Miles’ laptop seems to be working fine now.  I had to disable the PDF add on that seemed to be corrupting Microsoft Word 2007.  Both Word and Acrobat PDF’s are opening up without any problems now.  I will shoot Hal an email to let him know.  Shortly after he came in and saw that Word was working, the PDF didn’t open up though.  I’ll continue working on it.
  • Checked the HP site for warranty checking for the 19″ LCD monitor CNK6250GP9, its warranty expired on August 19, 2009.

  • Sent Wes Garcia an email letting him know that all is well with the Render Node Tripp lite box as he requested on yesterday.
  • Scanned and emailed the work study time sheets to Katrina L. Davis.
  • Attended the Systems Office meeting at Starbucks with Dan, Steve, Hassan, and Ben.
  • Emailed Andrew P. Dehner about the VSFX-02_Siren Project space.  He thought the name of it was VSFX210-Doritos and was trying to access it.
  • Added Adehne21 to the VSFX-02_Siren project space.  He still could not get into it because the net ID Adehne20 was in the group and that’s incorrect.  He’s good to go now.
