Birds I Would Love to See

According to the government administrative website of Hong Kong, “there are about 450 bird species recorded in Hong Kong, representing approximately one third of the bird species recorded throughout China and one twentieth of the total number of bird species in the world.”

That being said, as a bird enthusiast I am even more excited to have the opportunity to see and blog about so many different types of birds! Naturally, with so many bird species to choose from, I have my personal favorites that I want to make my bird-sighting goal for this quarter. Here’s my list, with links to their Wikipedia Articles(I don’t want to steal any images).

This is a tentative list that I will be editing and adding to throughout the quarter as I learn more about native birds in Hong Kong.

White-Bellied Sea Eagle

Striated Heron

Purple Heron

Black-HeadedĀ Ibis

Eurasian Spoonbill

Black-faced Spoonbill (endangered-unlikely)

All birds of prey, especially eagles(there are quite a few here), and especially the Imperial Eagle.

Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird and the Forktailed Sunbird

Oriental Turtle Dove, Orange-Breasted Green Pigeon, and the Common Emerald Dove.

Blue Tailed Bee-Eater

Wish me luck!
