Yau Ma Tei
February 5th, 2013
Yau Ma Tei is very similar to Mong Kong. Both are known for their extensive markets that tourists and visitors like to spend time and money in. Yau Ma Tei’s most popular market is the Temple Street Night Market. This market is slightly different than others in the sense that it is only open at night and its abandoned during the day. Located up and down Temple Street, this market is always packed when the sun goes down, and the restaurants along the sides of the market vendors are always packed with hungry tourists and locals craving to indulge in the inexpensive authentic cuisine. It is not uncommon to dine on the streets or in a makeshift building with sheets of metal acting as a roof. If you are caught in a rain storm while shopping in this market, try to find cover in one of the restaurants that does not have holes in the ceiling. questionable structures aside, this market has some of the best food and best trinkets I have purchased while in Hong Kong. This is a great place to take a date, or a group of friends to have a fun and inexpensive night out in Hong Kong.
