THE SINGAPORE SLING

29 Jan

The famous Raffles Hotel is not to be missed on a visit to Singapore. It is the most grand and historic hotel in the country.

November -January is monsoon season in Singapore. Right when we got to the hotel it started pouring! We got so lucky we were out of the rain just in time.

It’s nice to take a stroll through the courtyards of the hotel and a look at the museum. When you visit this hotel you must check out the bar. The bar captures the essence of the hotel and its character. To my surprise, everyone just threw their peanut shells onto the floor. It has a very retro feel and you much try the Singapore Sling!

I went with my new travel comrades I met back at the hostel. We all got one. There are so many different delicious selections.

 Cheers!

BEST HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE ON THE PLANET

26 Jan

The best Hainan Chicken Rice dish is of course in Singapore, and it is properly served at Tian Tian, a local hawker food stand located at the Maxwell food court in Chinatown. My buddies and I arrived at the food court around 11:30 am, which of course is just about lunch time. There was already a long queue waiting for us to join in. It is definitely worth the wait though!

You can order a simple half chicken with rice dish or a whole chicken.

The dish takes a lot of care to prepare. The chef cooks the rice in chicken broth and herbs. The chicken is first boiled then doused into ice water so that the skin is separated from the chicken by a layer of solidified fat.

There are 3 condiments that come with the dish. You may have to ask the server for them. They are chili, Thick soy sauce, and ginger paste.

Mix them or dip the chicken one by one. It is really a personal choice ;)

MY RECENT TRIPS

24 Jan

I have decided to dedicate this blog for the amazing foods I have come across since moving here to Asia. The foods are a story on its own but its so much more when those meals are shared with the new friends I have made along the way of my new life.
(friends from SCAD)

I look forward to posting more about the fun times I have had in my recent travels to Bangkok, Singapore, Johor, and Hong Kong.
