Alphabet project

First picture is clearer picture of list of alphabets that I found.
Second picture is my final design, rather than listing from A to Z, I used alphabets I found to express the feeling that I had when I was looking for these letters.

Jack & Jill group project

This project was a good lesson for me to learn about the adventage of group work.
When we met as a group everyone had a different ideas to create this piece. It was really fun to see the characters we drew and stories we created as well as the presentation we had in mind. For example, the story we chose for this project was something that I would never have chosen myself. Or the huge format was something that other team members maybe wouldn’t have thought of. It was fun to bring all the ideas together as well as filling eachother’s weak point such as drawing skill or craftmanship. I thought about qualities for successful group work after this project and it was a great lesson for me to learn about it.
I was also happy that it turned out well!

Patterns(mixture of patterns)

These are the patterns that I collected outside of the classroom and I mixed them regardless of their texture and material and changed color and contast to come up with new possible fabric patterns. Among all the patterns I created these are the patterns that I liked the most.

Patterns

1. Coming up with a shape using fiures. I played with figures and selected a shape I liked. It was a squre minus circle. A circle in a box

2. Cutting process (1″ and  2″ squres)

3. Arrangement (1″ squres only)

Arrangement 2″ squres only

1″ and 2″ squres mixed arrangement

4. Fianl selection

5. Coming up with an interesting pattern : It was kind of difficult in the beginning to find out an interesting shape since I was too afraid to break the rule

6. First selected design: I selected a design that I thought was adequate and painted on the illustration board with india ink. However after making final piece I felt like it’s too rigid and has no fun. So I decided to try something more fun and doesn’t break the rule at the same time.

7. Second selected design: I took the outlines from the assembled piece and filled it in and out to come up with something more fun and interesting.

8. Fianl piece & Evaluation: After taking a long time filling the outlines in different ways, I came up with a design I liked very much.

Class critique: I got a critique on the piece I created from the class mates. The strong point discussed was that the design has a good balance of positive and negative shape and that it has a elegant looking shape. Weak point part discussed was the accidental heart, I had to fill in the blank due to an accident while filling in the blanks with india ink, which at the end created an accidental heartshape.

However I made this decision because I was sure the blank wouldn’t destory the general design. So it is better to fill it in than leaving a flaw on it.

Line drawing

This exercise has been quiet helpful for me since I wasn’t very confidnet with compostion. Every time I put things in places it always look somehow unbalanced. After reading the guideline of using the positive and negative space I tried to think about negative and positive space when I was drawing lines on the paper and I think it did help. In first exercise of drawing horizontal lines my composition look a lot more awkward than the last exercise of drawing all the different kinds of lines together. Hopefully it will get better and better.

In critiques it was mentioned that my second exercise of curved lines and the last exercise of all the lines together, it would have been better if I spread things out a little more. For my second design because it was in the middle it looks a little clogged. I’ll probably still have to work on it myself to control the spaces.

Hello!

Hi I’m Juliet, my korean name is Chiwon but I prefer my English name Juliet since all my favorite people recongnize me as Juliet.

As I mentioned above I’m from South Korea this is almost my first time living here in United States.

To be honest I wouldnt have imagined that I would get an oppertunity to be in art school althought design always has been my main interest.

Since there was a failed fine artist in my family, all my family members were banned from choosing to study this area.

When I graduated highschool I decided to major in my second interes, Politics concentration on human rights.

I really enjoyed studying it however I couldn’t stop thinking about Design.

Last summer over the summer vacation I got an oppertunity to work in an investment company and luckly I got well paid.

So I decided to go to Europe to fully enjoy my vacation.

My Finnish friend who I haven’t seen after highschool invited me to Finalnd so booked a flight to Finland.

When I met her I found out that she wanted to study Math in UK after studying Engineering for 3 years.

After explaining my situation we decided to try to apply to schools and see what happens.

We both were accepted and now we ended up in two different parts of the world.

Life is good!

By the way if there is anyone who either enjoys dancing Salsa or Swing, let me know! I’ve been dying to dance them!
