Cultural and Academic Preparation Program (CAPP)
The Cultural and Academic Placement Program is a four week pre-orientation summer program for new international SCAD students held during the month of August. CAPP offers instruction in English as a second language and an introduction to life in the United States, Savannah and especially SCAD.
CAPP Assistant
CAPP assistants serve as an ambassador and resource for the cultural component of the program. They assist with afternoon workshops and as well as evening and weekend activities and excursions as needed. They also assist with managing social media related to CAPP and the CAPP Buddy program which connects current SCAD students with CAPP participants.
Minimum Qualifications
• Availability in Savannah during late July and all of August
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Ability to participate in training sessions
• Ability to communicate with diverse groups of nonnative English speakers
• Previous leadership experience
• Flexibility, open-mindedness and a sense of humor
• Knowledge of issues that affect first-year international students and strategies for success
• Be able to conduct oneself in a professional manner, role model appropriate behavior, and comply with the SCAD Code of Student Conduct at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
• Fluency in a second language, especially Chinese or Spanish
• Previous experience as a CAPP participant
Remuneration
• Free meal plan for duration of program
• $7.25 hourly
CAPP Resident Assistant
CAPP resident assistants serve as a live-in university and community resource for CAPP participants. The position allows former and current resident assistants to build upon their leadership skills by working with culturally diverse students with unique needs. CAPP RAs reside in the residence hall where CAPP participants live during the entire month of August.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must be a current RA or former RA at SCAD
• Ability to participate in training sessions
• Availability in Savannah during late July and all of August
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Ability to communicate with diverse groups of nonnative English speakers
• Previous leadership experience
• Flexibility, open-mindedness and a sense of humor
• Knowledge of issues that affect first-year international students and strategies for success

Responsibilities
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner, role model appropriate behavior, and comply with
the SCAD Code of Student Conduct and Housing License Agreement at all times.
• Participate in on-call duty and understand that the frequency of duty varies.
• Serve as an open and active communication link, working cooperatively with other departments at SCAD.
• Assist residents in individual and group conflict resolution.
• Support the diverse populations in the building by advocating for individual needs.
• Report damages and maintenance needs to facilities and encourage students to take responsibility for their actions.
• Participate in occupancy-related processes including check-in and checkout procedures, room changes, confirmation of no-shows, and opening and closing functions. Expect late evening check-ins typical with international flights.
• Support CAPP assistants with afternoon session attendance as needed.
• Be alert to safety and security issues, and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of the residents and the proper notification of the residence director.
• Take on other duties as assigned by ISSO staff.

•Room and board during the month of August in the residence hall

International Orientation Assistant
Job responsibilities
·Assist with check-in and registration procedures.
· Be available to respond to new international students’ concerns, questions and needs.
·Serve as a role model to students.
· Interact with parents.
·Attend orientation activities as requested.
·Explain college policies.
·Facilitate small group discussions and answer avariety of questions. Be prepared to distribute your SCAD e-mail address to your small group and respond to any e-mails you may receive.
·Report student and parent concerns to proper college officials.
·Always arrive on time prepared to work.
·Display a positive attitude toward the college and its mission.
·Enjoy meeting new people and have lots of fun!
·Take on other duties as assigned by ISSO staff.

·Ability to work the required schedule during orientation events (prior to start of fall quarter)
