Welcome back!

Today we did a mass critique of the pieces, and although it wasn’t a complete and refined critique I still got a lot of useful information out of it!

The critiques for this piece were:

• Looks like fabric
• Has good craftsmanship
• The square either needs to be precisely in the middle of the piece, or very off center
• Possibly if all of the lines came into the square
• Or the lines were all smooth around the square

The critiques for this piece were:

• It looks like something underneath a microscope
• There is a presence in the center
• It looks like you are looking through the picture into something else.

I didn’t get any other critiques other than those two, but I really appreciate the critiques that I received.

I also redesigned one of the pieces. And here it is.

I really did like the idea of putting the square in another area.

I am really enjoying these designs even though they aren’t my forte.

If you’re following along at home, I was working on some homework assignments. Well good news! I am all finished. It took a lot of time, hours of Supernatural, an aching spine and a huge mess everywhere, but I finished!

Luckily I am a perfectionist, so I’m actually pretty pleased with how these came out. It’s a little strange for me when a physical art medium piece turns out well, seeing as I am a filmmaker, but I am not complaining.

Here you shall see the work of the 21st century artist known as me (with some explanation behind each piece):

(USING HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LINES)

 I picked this piece out of my sketches because I really like creating a shape out of negative space. I wanted to pull focus into the center where there is a big giant nothing. I think that’s really interesting.

(USING DIAGONAL LINES)

 I picked this piece because while we had to work with diagonals, I wanted to work with gravity as well. Cutting off the advancement of the lines kinda gives it a looming feel and the negative space works well with the design.

(USING CURVES)

 I picked this piece because I learned a lot about circles in my last art class and I thought I would incorporate that knowledge into it. It’s really interesting to me how you can create lines and somehow it gives you the impression that there is a while other shape behind another. It gives it depth.

(USING HORIZONTAL, VERTICAL, DIAGONAL LINES AND CURVES)

 I picked this piece initially because it reminded me of a stain glass window. I also really like it because it encloses all of the lines and shapes and puts it smack dab in the center.

I really am quite pleased with the results of my pieces from just the sketches.

So it looks like it has come around to my first Design assignment! Right now it’s still in progress, but I thought I would put up the 100 thumbnail sketches I had to do.

The assignment was to divide the page into a design that emphasizes line but develops interest in how the space is subdivided using horizontal and vertical lines, diagonal lines, curves, and all of the above.

Now it’s time for me to pick a favorite child and put four designs onto Bristol board. I’ll be doing that this weekend and trying not to be my normal perfectionist self.

Hi there! I’m Britty and this here seems to be my blog.

I’m terrible at introductions, and I’m even worse at talking about myself, but it’s the attempt that counts, right?

How about I give you a list of interesting (debatable) things about myself:

• I am a transfer student.
• Originally I was a theatre major at Youngstown State University
• Now I am at SCAD as a sophomore Film major
• My favorite movie is the Princess Bride
• But I really just like movies
• No really-I like movies.
•                                                  
• I’m here at SCAD because I would like to get better at film so I can better run my production company
• Currently my production team has nine members
• I like to make films, write films and stories, and take pictures.

I’m not really sure what else is interesting about me, I guess that’s something I let other people decide rather than myself.

Anyways, I am not a very good physical art medium artist, so this is going to be an adventure. I will be learning more about how to create better art, what inspires me, and how I communicate with the world.
