Hello again!

Sorry for the late post, I can’t seem to catch up to myself!

The latest project we had to do was create a map inspired project. First we had to destroy a map and then create a project inspired by that.

To destroy my map, I went up to everyone I met during the day and asked them to draw on my map. It ended up looking a little bit like this:

It was really neat to see how people interacted with the map after I told them what to do. Some drew in corners, some drew over other drawings, some even made holes in my map.

After I had destroyed my map, I had to think of how to translate that into another piece. After a lot of thinking about how I was trying to portray collaboration, I ended up making a video.

It was way more fun than I thought, but I wish I had had more time to spend on it, as it didn’t turn out quite like I hoped.

I went last in the class so I really didn’t get any critique-but I do wish I had been able to use proper video footage and not pictures.

In the end, this project was really neat, and I would love to do something similar like this in the future!

As always, have an excellent day!

I’m just kidding-I didn’t cry.

Well hello there! This post is late as per the usual of my life currently. Lately everything’s been moving at much too fast a pace and I can’t seem to keep up.

Anyways, enough about me! Our latest project was to examine life and find the alphabet and numbers in it! (Also photo-document it. Observation didn’t really count.) I really wish I wouldn’t have had the life circumstances that I had, and would have been able to dedicate more time and energy to this project. I really like this concept and I am not really pleased with my pictures and my presentation.

That aside, I did the best I could with the circumstances I had, and I liked my ideas at the very least. Below are the 35 pictures as well as the presentation.

Now that I am positive you know your alphabet, here are some of the critique notes

liked the idea but could have been better if there was construction paper, or a drop shadow, or raised up more

close up is very effect, is pleasing, different and gives a good 3-D effect

all vertical, or change the orientation of some of them.

the grid is very messy-in terms of straightness and order

the lighting in some of the pictures is very yellow which draws the wrong kind of attention

For me, this was not my best work in any way shape or form, but I really hope that I made what I had work-which is always my goal.

As always, have a fantastic day!

Well hi there! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Come, come, let’s sit here with a nice glass of apple juice and discuss my art-doings.

Recently I just completed a group project where the ultimate goal of the project was to recreate the story of “Jack and Jill”. We had to do this using a bunch of symbols and pictures and use them in our own way.

Here are some of our preliminary sketches/collage.

Unfortunately not a lot got documented in the processes in the middle-mostly because we kinda went our separate ways to complete our portions.

Anyways, here is our final product.

I’d like to put some of the critique notes before I move onto my personal thoughts.

It was hard to agree on a story line, but it was interesting and engaging that there were multiple interpretations of the story

Some of the images were not being read as intended, ie: the museum did not read as a museum

The repeating pattern of the hands made which character was which confusing

The image of the main characters did not stay the same

The fifth frame did not match up size wise

Compositionly there were similarities, it played up the cohesiveness

With the big bold shapes, the line work could have been played up-the line thickness could have been varied

The big bold shapes weren’t cohesive enough-no big shape in the 3rd frame, no big shape in the 5th frame and too much in the 4th frame

The mask doesn’t seem to be behind bars

There was a bit of inconsistency mostly in terms of composition

And now time for my two cents!

I am always apprehensive about working in a group, especially if I’ve never worked with the group members before. I think our group members were pretty cool dudes (it’s a genderless term) and I was pretty excited to work with them! That being said, I think a couple of things weren’t the greatest for this project. Number one being that I was currently working on another group project in a different class, and in said class-I was actually designated as the leader. So it was a bit hard for me to try to get a group feel rather than me just automatically taking charge. Our group also had some trouble agreeing on what exactly we wanted for the design.

BUT. (And I put that but in all captials, because I don’t want to pick out all the bad details) The entire group was great in splitting up the work evenly and getting their pieces done on time. I was worried that work distribution and time would be our downfall, but everything actually went way smoother than I expected.

Working in a group is always challenging, especially for someone with control issues. I am however pleased with the final results and I always relish and challenge. This wasn’t the one I was looking for, but it happened and I dealt with it!

As always, have a fantastic day!

Our latest project was to sit in an area for an hour, document all the sounds we heard and then create a visual sound map out of it.

I actually ended up doing the first part twice. I sat down in the classroom and documented all the sounds I heard. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I was really meant to be doing, so I just listened.

After I figured out what I wanted to do to create my map, I went back to my dorm and documented all the sounds again, this time creating a sound map with film. Big surprise there, seeing as I am a film major.

So without further ado, here is my sound map film.

As always, I hope you have a wonderful day!

Well hello there! So glad you stopped by!

Our latest assignment in Design was to find blogs that inspired us, specifically blogs in our field.

Well that’s where I’m stumped.

I am a filmmaker, and apparently, filmmaking blogs are hard to come by. It might be because I’m not looking for a specific role in filmmaking-I tend to wear all hats anyways-or it might be because filmmakers are just incredibly busy. Also, I have a theory that there are people who would love to run blogs, but have to be careful what they put online because of spoilers. It’s a good theory.

I have been finding some really interesting art professional blogs anyways, so have a looksie!

Humans of New York-This guy just goes around New York and photographs interesting people. I love it.

Screenwriting from Iowa-I don’t know too much about this guy, other than he’s a screenwriter and he’s been blogging for 5 years.

Life after Film School-About Ashley as she tackles life after film school. Kinda speaks to me in a way.

I’ve found a couple other screenwriting blogs, nothing that’s really caught my eye. I was hoping that I could find some blogs that covered independent filmmaking, filmmaking for the internet, or anything in general filmmaking. I may have been a bit too specific in my requests, or not looking in the right place. Blogs aren’t really my forte. I tend to deal in social networking and vlogs. It’s a lot more my style to gather my content and information from somebody rambling in front of a camera, than rambling on screen. A great example of that would be that I like to try to follow Apprentice A Productions. It’s really easy for me to sit down and watch a 5 minute video about what they’ve been up, rather than seeking out a long text post about them. But, to each his own. I’m actually starting to get the hang of this blogging thing.

As always, have a wonderful day!

Welcome!

You have ventured into the realm of Britty and I hope you enjoy your visit!

Today we shall explore my exploration of using black squares to fix problems.

The assignment was to use black squares to embody certain words. I hope that I did them a little bit of justice!

Order-Originally I was going to do a checkerboard pattern, but then I realized that diagonals can be orderly too! It’s a nice, neat little pattern that feels very solid.

Increase-I did this one a couple times, but my idea was to increase the size of the square and the height played a small part. It feels very thought bubble with squares and I like that!

Bold-I was thinking about doing a dark square in the middle of the page, but then I realized I could do something similar. I choose to make the square out of squares because it was bold and drew your attention right where I wanted it to go.

Congested-I’m sure this isn’t the most original congested piece, but my other ideas felt more orderly than congested. I wanted to give a feel of gravity.

Playful-You can kind of see the next piece underneath, but if you just focus on the two black squares, that was my intention. I liked these two because they aren’t on the conventional plane, and they are surrounded by negative space. Drawing your eye in and focused. I thought it felt playful and a bit reminiscent of a bow tie.

Tension-What causes more tension than the odd tile out in the bathroom? Again, this isn’t super complex, but I still felt it really gave the feel of tension.

All of these pieces were made with black masking tape in my sketchbook.

As always, have a fantastic day!

Welcome back to my blog!

Be warned, you are about to continue on a journey of epic proportions. And by epic, I mean not exactly that exciting.

Alright! Time to delve into the works of Britty and repetition on a grid.

Let’s start with sketches. I’m sorry if the quality is bad, it’s hard to capture pencil on paper.

As you can see, I was having some difficulty coming up with an interesting shape. I think a lot of that trouble was that every shape that thought of that might be interesting, I felt like someone else might have thought of it. But I should know it’s very very hard to come up with exact designs. I might have over simplified my designs, but I kinda feel like that’s my thing and it works for me. It’s not very risky, but it pulls in attention with simplicity.

Here is the final layout I came up with for my motif and the base for my inking plan. It isn’t terribly interesting, but it took a lot of work, let me tell you.

Next we have my inking plans. As you can see below, I spent a lot more effort than I should have, but I really got into it and I wanted to see all of my options. Again, my ideas are pretty boring and I could have tried some other things, but I tend to play it safe.

As you will see below I ended up going with the first inking plan.

I ended up going last for critique, so I hope that meant that I got a lot of good critiques. Here they are.

From far away it has good craftsmanship

Liked how the shapes make up another shape

Liked the repetitiveness

Like how the circles line up, but the lines don’t

Not the most complex motif, but what was done with it looks nice

Maybe put more lines into the motif?

It took a while to find the diamonds, the more you look at it, the more you find the lines

Your eyes move around the piece because of the diamonds

The design feels like it is a design on top of another design

The stretch down the right side made people uncomfortable

Maybe the design would have worked with a one inch by one inch?

The right side strip could be at the bottom

I definitely pulled from the critique that I need to make more risks and make more mistakes. I’m very safe about most everything.

I really enjoyed this project, even though I felt like I approached it from a more convention angle. I approached it with the mindset that it was a motif on a grid, and that lends itself to pattern. I really like pattern and seeing how I can make them interesting.

I hope that I obviously get to improve, and that my work was at least a little bit enjoyable.

As always, have a fantastic day!

And this is my isolation piece. I worked a bit with a stencil to get the curved lines. I actually like this design as it really draws your attention.

Doing these designs is really stretching my artistic imagination, and I hope that I can keep doing it without being too hard on myself.

In the meantime, have a wonderful day!
