These are the images I have for the ABC project. The assignment was to find images out in the world that look like letters and then to represent them into a picture or an illustration. My theme was Sports and recreational activities. I was in a rush to turn this project in, so I had to work with what I had. I went to Kinko’s to print out my letters and numbers, and the last two pages of letters and numbers were corrupt files. Those images were unable to print and I was running out of time, so thanks Kinko’s. What I planned to do was have two Bristol board papers, one with the images glued on the page and the other paper was matted to fit the images. The baseball jersey also matted would go over the second Bristol board paper with the jersey tucked into all the Bristol boards matted squares. I did not have the time to create the clean look so I used one Bristol board and just matted the jersey over, and cut jagged boxes over the images to give the jersey torn look.

This was the pattern project. The class was assigned a task to go out and look for random patterns out in the world and then represent them however we wanted. I chose to capture people and animals faces to see the patterns of behavior. I was intrigued in the patterns of expressions of people and animals rather than taking pictures of nature, or man made objects. I wanted to represent all the different attributes people and the animals had but show how they all have a similar pattern of expressions. I chose to put natural patterns of man made objects in the background to help show the main focus of this piece was a pattern. The direction of the background images pulls the focus to the man with his dog on his shoulders to represent the bond between them.

I decided to change the settings of my documentation of sounds from during class time to my house on Sunday afternoon. I first drew the street sign to show where it was I was telling this story. I then drew an interpretation of my house and added my house number to show exactly where it was on the map.

Jack and Jill
Went up a Hill
To fetch a Pale of Water
Jack fell down
Broke his Crown
And Jill came tumbling after
In this representation of the children’s nursery rhyme, our group decided to express it as a war story, where jack goes to war and Jill sends him a later, the pale of water is what the war is being fought for which is oil. When he falls down or is shot, Jill receives all his possessions back home and there love comes tumbling after.
In our critique, our class really liked how we presented the storyboard. They thought some of the exclamation marks in the picture where jack was shot was a little confusing. They like how the red was utilized in the story and helped a lot with the creativity, but it seemed a little unbalanced. Another picture that did not fit right was the last picture, the heart symbol seemed a little over used and maybe tacky to symbolize love, and maybe if it was depicted differently it would be less noticeable.

For this assignment we had to record 50 different things outside of class, that could have been anything like sound, smell, an object, a noise, a feeling. I chose to keep everything visual, so i took 50 pictures of things i thought was visually interesting. I thought that this was a good idea to correlate this with my major and my philosophy of cinematography, I think that even a boring story captured differently or unique, just as long as it is visually interesting could transform that boring story to something amazing. So as I left the class I tried to find very unique images, and I took all those images and made a collage.

In this design we were only allowed to represent these given word with 4 black squares. The first image I did was Playful, I tried to represent the squares as if its was that spinning thing that is above a baby’s crib. Tension, was represented as someone shouting. Bold was represented as a line of people and only one stood up to face his fears. Order was represented as a straight line of squares. Increase was represented as a small black square getting bigger by each square as if it was coming at the viewer. Congested was represented as traffic, the small box is a small car surrounded by large boxes that were semis.

For this design we took two images and combined them together to make a new shape. After we made this new shape (mine was a wrench head and a circle) we thought of many different ways of how to make a unique pattern or design on a grid. after many attempts I realized with the help from our teacher that I kept representing my pictures in a certain order, she told me sometimes you have to do something random and you can find a design within that randomness. After changing a few things around in my design I came up with a design that I liked very well.

I was unable to Blog my Critique Notes because I turned in my Groundsheets late, so my work was not able to be critiqued, but I thought the Critiquing Process was very interesting. It showed what every student thought about each others pieces of art work. It gave me a whole new vocabulary of how I would describe Art. Words like Rhythm, Balance, and Viewpoint, I thought were interesting and I am hoping I focus on those aspects for my next project.

Hi, I am Beau Bellanich. I am 23 years old and I am a Film and Television major. I have never started a blog or a web page before, but I think the assignment was to write about who we are and why we are attending SCAD. I grew up in Palm Desert, California and lived there for most of my life. I grew up playing baseball and planned on playing professionally. After Highschool I move to Los Angeles to play baseball at a junior college called El Camino Community College. The year after that I moved to San Diego to play at Grossmont Community College. Before the year even started my shoulder gave out on me and now I can not play anymore.

After a long time of considering what I wanted to do in life, I turned to film. I always enjoyed movies and television and how they were made. As a young kid my brothers and I acted in extras in movies, shows, and sometimes commercials. During that experience I got to see how everything was made. I never had a strong desire to act in films at all, but I was always interested in how things were shot, and how other people acted out scenes. I want to be involved with capturing scenes in movies or television, also maybe one day learn about directing cause I think that would be very interesting to do as well. I believe everyone has a different style of portraying a story, and I would be interested to see what my portrayal looks like on screen. I chose to go to Scad because I was referred that they have the best Film and Television program than any other school.
