The Post-Apocalyptic Photo Challenge!!

APG wants to see what you would
do as an artist if you no longer had
access to your digital files and
could no longer plug into the grid.
We propose to start a dialogue by posing questions. Is our digital dependency
causing us to overlook the imagemaking potential of new materials and
knowledge that hasn’t yet been used in
fine art photography? On the flip side,
are there creative new ways to use
vintage photographic methods? Is it
even possible today to utilize chemical
processes without electricity?
We’d like to see work that experiments
with installations and presentations
that incorporate optics and visual
phenomena. Consider mining the
remains of civilizations past by finding
new uses for light sensitive materials. Other options might include using
existing prints as raw material for a
new piece.
For more information, FAQ’s, entry
form and payment options please

Worldwide Pinhole Photography day!

APRIL 28th 2013!!

Dittmer-2013-400

How to participate:

It should be very easy for anyone interested in pinhole photography to participate in the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. Here is what you do.

1.) Before April 28, 2013: Get your equipment ready!

-If you already own a pinhole camera: Test your camera to make sure it is functioning. Buy film, paper, or any other light-sensitive material ahead of time.

-If you don’t own a pinhole camera: Build one. Test it to become familiar with exposure times. Process the film, paper, or other light-sensitive material and repeat until you feel comfortable with the camera and the procedures. Train your pinhole vision and begin thinking of your future WPPDay picture…

2.) On April 28, 2013: Go out and make your pinhole images!

This is a day to have fun. Go out by yourself or with some friends, and take a fresh look at the world through your pinhole camera. If the weather is not good, remember that you can always take your pictures inside! There is plenty at home to rediscover through the magic eye of the pinhole camera. Enjoy yourself, and give a thought to all the pinholers participating in this event around the planet.

3.) After April 28, 2013: Process your images, and submit them on this site!

Process your image(s), or have a photolab process it for you. Have an attentive look at the pictures that you have made on April 28, 2013.You have to make a choice. Remember, this is not a photo contest. There are no good or bad pictures. Every pinhole photograph is unique. Choose one image you love and you want to share with others!

Submit the photograph by following the simple procedures outlined on this site: http://www.pinholeday.org/gallery/

General Information and Eligibility Requirements

The Aaron Siskind Foundation is offering a limited number of Individual Photographer’s Fellowship grants of up to $10,000 each, for artists working in photography and photo-based art. Recipients will be determined by a panel of distinguished guest judges on the basis of artistic excellence, accomplishment to date, and the promise of future achievement in the medium in its widest sense. The Foundation seeks to support artists/photographers who demonstrate a serious commitment to the field, who are professionally active or employed in the field. The entry fee for this grant is $10USD.

Applications must be submitted through the CaFE application system at www.CallForEntry.org.

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens and Legal Permanent Residents of the United States, who reside in the U.S., and who are at least 21 years of age. Recipients must provide legal proof of eligibility and a verifiable social security number.

Who May Not Apply: Students enrolled in a college degree program. Students who graduate before the 2013 application deadline are eligible to apply. Previous IPF recipients are not currently being considered for new awards. At this time, artists on temporary visas such as the O-1 visa are not eligible to apply.

Eligible Work: Still photography regardless of subject matter, genre, or process. Works submitted may be traditional photography projects or experimental works, but photographic techniques must be pivotal to the works submitted. The submission should consist of a mature, coherent body of work.

Examples of Non-Eligible Work: Film, video, interactive multimedia

Fellowship recipients will be notified by September 2013. Names of recipients and panelists will be announced shortly thereafter. The decisions of the Aaron Siskind Foundation and its designated judging panel as to who receives fellowship support will be final, private, and without appeal. As required by law, award funds must be used to further the artist’s creative endeavors. Recipients will be asked to provide a summary of the uses to which award funds are put.
