The Cave

Available Resources and Policies:

Currently enrolled photo majors, minors, or non-majors enrolled in a photo class, who have paid their lab fee and have a valid SCAD ID, have access to the Cave and the Department’s darkrooms.

Available equipment includes enlarger lenses, negative carriers, contact printers, easels, trays, timers, and     graduates.  Items not supplied by the Cave include film, paper, tape, scissors, can openers, developing tanks, and thermometers.  Please arrive prepared.

Studio Equipment Checkout

Available Resources and Policies:

Currently enrolled photo majors, minors, or non-majors enrolled in a photo class, and have a valid SCAD ID, have access to Studio Checkout and our shooting bays.

Available equipment includes large-format cameras and accessories, hot lights, strobe systems and dedicated accessories, digital cameras, 35mm cameras, tripods, backdrop poles, and miscellaneous grip gear.  Items not supplied include film, tape, scissors, backdrop paper, and miscellaneous styling gear.  Please arrive prepared.

In studio shoots do not require a reservation for equipment.  A clear understanding of the equipment and the appropriate classes are required.  Shooting space must be reserved by using the sign-up logs located in each bay.  Non-Scad students, who will be involved with a shoot past 9pm, Mon-Sun, require a written memo from me to security.  Please send your model’s names and anyone involved with your shoot to tdodd@scad.edu.

On-location shoots require a reservation through the Operations Office.  This assures that all gear is available and in working order for the requested times.  Please send all requests to tdodd@scad.edu, with an itemized list of all gear, along with dates and pick-up times.  Equipment for on-locations shoots can be picked-up or dropped off  during studio checkout hours.

Inkjet/Scanning Lab

C_5 Room #554 Monday – Sunday 24hrs

Available Resources and Policies

Currently enrolled photo majors, minors, or non-majors enrolled in a photo class, who have paid their lab fee, have a valid SCAD ID, and have taken PHT 220 have access to the Inkjet/Scanning Lab.

Available equipment includes Epson 7880, Epson 9800, Epson R2400, and Epson 9990 inkjet printers. Also, Epson 10000xl and Imacon 848  scanners. .  Items not supplied include inkjet paper.

Durst Theta 76

C_5 Room #524  Monday – Friday 10am-5pm

Available Resources and Policies:

Currently enrolled photo graduate or undergrads, who have paid their lab fee, have a valid SCAD ID, and have taken PHT 415 have access to the Durst Theta 76.

Theta print sessions are reservation use only.  A sign up sheet is located next to the control PC in #524.  Paper must be supplied by the user.

Safety
Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals used/or provided by the SCAD Photography Department are on file in The Cave, Film Processing, and Alternative Processes and are available for reference at anytime.  It is recommended that students take the necessary safety precautions when handling chemistry.   See the Operations Office regarding any questions on proper chemistry use.

Liability

Students are liable for any and all damage, loss, or theft of equipment while it is in their possession.

The SCAD Photography Department cannot be held responsible for items left in the labs.  Students must remember to take their prints, negatives, and related items with them.  Students may not keep prints on the drying screens for longer than 24hrs.
