Juror Karen Haas, Lane Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, will select work by eight contemporary photographers that will comprise the eighteenth iteration of the PRC’s highly regarded annual juried exhibition.
Submissions Open: Monday, February 11, 2013
Submissions Due: Sunday, March 3, 2013, 11:59 pm EST
Exhibition Dates: June 4 - July 27, 2013
 
Awards
  • The juror will select eight photographers for the gallery exhibition at the PRC this summer.
  • The juror also will select one of these artists for the Best of Show Award.
  • The PRC will select two winners of the Staff Picks Award. One will be featured in the PRC’s journal, Loupe, and the other will be included in NEO, our monthly online showcase of work by regional members.
Prizes
The PRC is pleased to announce the following prizes for artists  tamracsubmitting to Exposure. All artists will be entered into a drawing
and three winners will be selected at random.
  • 1 Winner of a Tamrac Zuma 9 Secure Traveler Photo/iPad
    Backpack hahnemuhle(valued at $100)
  • 2 Winners of his/her choice of any Hahnemuhle 13 x 19 inch photo paper (valued at $100 per box)

Exposure 2013 Juror

For the last decade Karen Haas has served as the Lane Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she is responsible for a large collection of photographs by American modernists such as Charles Sheeler, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, and Imogen Cunningham. The Lane Collection, which has recently been given to the Museum, numbers more than 6,000 prints and ranges across the entire history of western photography from William Henry Fox Talbot to the Starn twins. Before coming to the MFA, Haas held various curatorial positions in Boston-area museums and private collections, including the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Boston University Art Gallery, and the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover. She holds a BA in Art History from Connecticut College; received her MA in the History of Photography at Boston University; and taught the history of photography at both Boston University and Boston College.

Silver & Ink!!!!

Silver & Ink is SCAD’s premier juried photography exhibition and publication, showcasing the best student work.

Entries will be accepted from all undergraduate and graduate photography majors or minors who are enrolled as full-time or part-time students during the 2012-13 academic year at SCAD Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong or eLearning. Students who graduated Fall 2012 or Winter 2013 are eligible, however alumni who graduated prior to Fall 2012 are not eligible.

Consideration for the Savannah exhibition is limited to SCAD Savannah and eLearning students, however all student work will be considered for inclusion in the Silver & Ink publication.

Each student may submit up to three entries and all genres are welcome. This includes, but is not limited to fine art, commercial, product, editorial, documentary/journalism, alternative processes, new media/experimental, and 2-D and 3-D mixed media. Large installations and videos will not be accepted due to limited exhibition space.

Entries that fail to follow submission guidelines will not be considered for exhibition or publication.

Third Annual Conveyor Exhibition Grant // Deadline February 28, 2013

The annual Conveyor Exhibition Grant is presented to an artist whose work exudes compelling new ideas, a well developed concept, and attention to technical detail in a photographic project. We are pleased to invite all artists working in media related to photography to apply. The grant recipient will have their work printed at Conveyor Arts and exhibited in a solo show at United Photo Industries in Brooklyn, New York, in May 2013.

This unique opportunity includes close engagement with the Conveyor Arts community in consultations regarding editing, determining best materials, discussing workflow for archival pigment printing practices, as well as a private printing sessions to produce the show. The grant recipient will also be invited to give an artist talk at United Photo Industries and participate in other programming in connection with the exhibition.

This year’s panel of jurors include Sam Barzilay, Hannah Whitaker, and Andrew Frost.

Job description: Westchester Magazine seeks a full-time, permanent art/photo assistant to help the creative directors with both photo and art/design needs. Note: this position requires both design and photo skill sets and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess solid design and photography skills, excellent organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; be adept at prioritizing; be web savvy and resourceful in conducting research to obtain the necessary images; be capable of working quickly and efficiently in an atmosphere of continuous deadlines

Primary duties and responsibilities:
•Scouting and sourcing photos and images from outside entities
•Coordinating and scheduling photo shoots, and helping with the logistics of shoots
•Updating page layouts and designs, making necessary art corrections
•Completing the layouts and designs of some pages for the creative directors.
•Stepping in to complete designs and layouts when one of the creative directors is absent.
•Taking photographs of products, food, places, etc., as needed

Required skills:
•Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge)
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
•Impeccable written and verbal communication skills and polished phone manner
•Digital photography
•A good visual eye with the ability to discern what would be the best, most appropriate, and most visually appealing photos and images for the stories.

Theme: (Un)Clothed is not simply to be nude. To be unclothed is to be without cover: to be bare, free, exposed, vulnerable, natural and/or blank. While humans most often use clothing as decoration, protection, covering, or barrier, one’s own skin has become socially regarded as hidden and/or private. (Un)Clothed will reveal what lies beneath and depict that which is not commonly seen or expected.

 

ENTRY FEE: Members: $20 for the first three images. Non-Members: $35 for the first three images Additional images may be submitted for $10. There is no limit to the number of images that may be submitted. Applicants signing up for membership at the time they submit will receive the automatic discounted entry fee.
