SCAD students shine at MODA

Lauren Smith (MFA student) and Stewart Wegman (BFA student) participated with  Michael Habachy in creating a design vignette for the Museum of Design Atlanta  (MODA) exhibition, “South’s Next Wave Design Challenge.” This exhibition pairs designers of interior spaces with object designers to create imaginative vignettes throughout the museum. Each vignette is technologically enabled with the Skovr app, allowing viewers to access facts and video about the designers while in the galleries or from their own homes. During the run of the exhibition (from November 11th to March 31st), MODA visitors will be asked to choose their favorite vignette and object to determine the winner of the competition.

Lauren and Stewart were pivotal contributors to the concept, design development, and implementation of the project. Their vignette, entitled “Sound Lounge,” is the result of a collaboration with guitar designer Peter Solomon. The team created a lounge space in a monochromatic palette using various shades of eggplant and plums. A guitar-inspired feature wall, graphic mural, chaise lounge, handcrafted pillows, and a deep eggplant hair-on-hide area rug were all made to custom specifications.
