Graduate Studio – urban design project

Examples of projects from the Graduate Architecture Studio that focuses on urban projects.

The focus of the studio is to generate ideas and propose solutions.

Students will be positioned as designers and professionals who can aspire and respond to the dynamics of human life and realize the connection between historic and contemporary, conceptual and experimental, natural and man-made.

Students will propose scenarios for urban life, develop conceptual and experimental urban and architectural models, and transit these to tangible built environments and objects for an actual project.

Studio VII – Design for City of Jacksonville

In the fall quarter we had a talented group of students create design recommendations for the City of Jacksonville on urban issues that are currently of interest to the city. The area that students made proposals for is located adjacent to the business core of the city between Bay street, North Liberty Street, Metropolitan Park and the river front, also known as the Shipyard area .

Around fifty people participated in the final presentation at the Jacksonville City hall Ed Ball room. Participants included city officials from the Planning Department and the Mayor’s Office, local professionals and community people. You can read about the local reaction at the Metro Jacksonville blogsite. The work was excellent and it was exciting to hear the positive reactions the students’ work received.

Here are some images of this presentation.
