Join us for food, wine and just plain fun. View the latest M.F.A. exhibition in this special gallery dedicated to showcasing graduate student work. Visit with old friends and make new ones. Park in the SCAD Atlanta parking deck and hop on the SCAD shuttle for door-to-door service.

Join us for a Fall Festival of Lights celebration on the skyline level of SCAD Atlanta. Dinner and the commemorative gift are available for $20 in advance (pay for dinner day of, cash only). Fashion alum Megan Fenno named a 2010 Cincinnati Women of the Year

Congratulations to Megan Fenno (B.F.A., fashion, 2006) who was recently named one of the 2010 Cincinnati Women of the Year for fashion and runs the online boutique FENNOfashion.

SCAD Events during Fashion’s Night Out Sept 10

SCAD will take over Manhattan on Fashion’s Night Out, Friday, Sept. 10 with events on the East Side at Dylan’s Candy Bar, West Side at Lord & Taylor and downtown at Debut New York retail gallery and boutique. SCAD will also celebrate Fashion’s Night Out at locations throughout Atlanta, one of only twelve FNO-sanctioned cities. Learn more about the events.

Work by John Hames (M.F.A., Photography, 2002) is included in the Art of Photography Show occurring August 28 through November 7. The world-class international exhibition takes place at the elegant two-level Lyceum Theatre Gallery in San Diego, Ca.

Art sale to benefit Tiffani Taylor Scholarship

Ruth’s Chris Savannah and Tiffani Taylor (B.F.A., painting, 2002; M.A., art history, 2003) have collaborated to exhibit Taylor’s work. A collection of her expressionistic marsh paintings, European flower markets and red poppies are currently on display. Fifteen percent of all art sales will be donated to the Tiffany Taylor SCAD scholarship, which annually awards a senior painting student with a $500 scholarship for art supplies.

A sneak preview will be held this Thursday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. A formal artist reception will be held Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. A silent auction will take place during the artist reception with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund.

Hilary Bronwyn Gayle featured in ICG Magazine

A film still shot by Hilary Bronwyn Gayle (B.F.A., photography, 2006) on the set of Patrick Roddy’s psychological thriller, Mercy, was featured in the July issue of ICG Magazine. This is the second year Hilary’s work was selected for publication in the magazine. In 2009, her film still from Red 21 was also featured.

Angela Dominguez Illustrates New Children’s Books

Angela Dominguez (B.F.A., illustration, 2004) illustrates for the children’s book, Carmen Learns English (Holiday House Publishing), which release this September. Dominguez’s fourth book, La Noche Buena (Abrams Books), is being released this November.

2010 ShootQ Grant Call for Entries

The ShootQ Grant is a $12,000 grant given to a photographer to fund a project that raises public awareness about an important social, environmental or economic issue. The grant will provide photographers the opportunity to work on a meaningful project, unencumbered by daily work, with the creative freedom and financial support necessary to produce photographs that raise public awareness about important issues. The application deadline is Friday, August 27. Learn more about how to apply.

SCAD hosts sixth annual Designs on eLearning Conference

SCAD will host the sixth annual Designs on eLearning Conference on the use of technology for teaching and learning in art, design and communications. The event will take place in Savannah, Ga., Sept. 15-17 at the Hilton Savannah DeSoto hotel, 15 E. Liberty St., in Savannah.

 

The Designs on elearning Conference aims to cast light on established practices in the field, on innovations in teaching and learning with technology, on the challenges and successes presented by the visual nature of the discipline, and on the benefits of online and blended learning. It provides a forum for disseminating and promoting good practice in art, design and communication and for the exchange of ideas and information on the creative use of elearning in development.
