Michelle Estrin (B.F.A., graphic design, 2001) opens Match Talent, a full-service creative staffing agency in the San Francisco Bay Area that represents advertising, marketing and creative professionals on a free-lance and full-time basis. MatchTalent represents recent graduates, junior, mid-level and senior level talent.

Patrick Millard Artist in Residence at Biosphere 2

Patrick Millard (M.F.A., photography, 2008) will be at the Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Az for the month of June as artist in residence.  He will be working closely with scientists there to develop photographic, sound and new media portfolios that are centered upon the synthetic/organic merger that is Biosphere 2. Millard’s hope is to extend the relationship he has with scientists while at the Biosphere 2 residency in order to further his artistic endeavors.

Alumni tent at SCAD Savannah New Alumni Festival

Join us at the alumni tent Friday night during the SCAD Savannah New Alumni Festival at Forsyth Park. Visit with fellow alumni and welcome the class of 2010 to the SCAD Alumni Association. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a Piaggio Fly 50 scooter from Motorini. Proceeds go to the SCAD Silver Scholarship, a student involvement scholarship. It’s sure to be a great time!

In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the City of Beaufort’s charter, nationally recognized artist
Amiri Geuka Farris (B.F.A., illustration, 1997; M.F.A., painting, 2006) has created 20 new paintings that honor the past, present and future of Beaufort, South Carolina. His new works will go on display from May 28 – June 12 at the Charles Street Gallery, 914 Charles St., Beaufort, Sc. There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 28,  5 – 7:30 p.m.

Vote for Tobia Makover

Visit the Artists Wanted website and rate the portfolio of Tobia Makover (M.F.A., photography, 2001) in the Exposure open call. Artists Wanted is a collaborative project between several New York City artists and creative organizations working to build new lasting opportunities for emerging talent.

Exposure is an international open call for inspired photography. A panel of judges including Photographer Lauren Greenfield, New York Times Photo Editor Maura Foley, MOMA Curator Nora Lawrence and JPG Founders Derek Powazek & Heather Powazek Champ, will choose one photographer for the Grand Prize. The public will also cast their vote and the highest rated portfolio will receive the People’s Choice Award which includes $2,000 in cash; a Manhattan gallery reception; and airfare and shipping to and from New York City for the event.

SCAD New Alumni Festival in Atlanta and Savannah

The SCAD New Alumni Festival will take place in Atlanta and Savannah to celebrate our new alumni. The Atlanta concert is Thursday, May 27 and the Savannah concert is Friday, May 28.

The Savannah concert lineup features acclaimed bands Crash Kings, Galactic and G Love & Special Sauce. The May 28 concert in Forsyth Park will feature an eclectic blend of gritty, bluesy indie music. Crash Kings will kick off the show at 6 p.m. Next up, at 7:30 p.m., will be New Orleans-based Galactic. At 9 p.m., the alternative hip-hop band from Philadelphia, G. Love & Special Sauce, will close the night. DJ Omar will keep the crowd lively between performances. Additionally, Galactic will perform at SCAD Atlanta on May 27, 7 p.m.

 

Transportation will be provided from the Savannah Civic Center to Forsyth Park, beginning at 4 p.m. and running until the conclusion of the festival. Join us for music, food and celebration, and honor the new pool of promising alumni who join an elite group of post-graduation successes.

Chris Scarborough weekend shows

Chris Scarborough (B.F.A., illustration, 2000) will be featured in two shows this weekend on both the east and west coasts. In Orlando, Scarborough will exhibit photography at Snap! Orlando through May 23. The artists drawings will be on display at the San Francisco Fine Arts Fair May 21 – 23 as part of the Foley Gallery exhibit. The event takes place at the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. If you are in either area this weekend, stop by the events and support a fellow SCAD alum!

ArtPrize 2010 registration closes June 17

Registration for ArtPrize 2010 has been extended and will now close Thursday, June 17. This open art competition connects the public and artists through social media with a completely open platform. Cash prizes are awarded based on a public vote and participation is open to any artist who registers and secures a venue on the ArtPrize website. The event will take place Sept. 22 through Oct. 10, 2010 in Grand Rapids, Mi.

SCAD Denver Alumni Group at Denver Chalk Art Festival

Join the SCAD Denver alumni group at the 8th Annual Denver Chalk Art Festival (formerly known as La Piazza dell’Arte). A two-day, street-closing, pavement-painting event, this Italian street festival will be held June 5-6 on downtown’s Larimer Square. Led by Denver Alumni Group President Amy-Cheslin Turner (B.F.A., painting, 1991) and husband Stanley Turner (M.Arch, 1990), this will be the 4th consecutive year the group will participate in the festival by entering their chalk masterpiece.

 

SCAD alumni, family, and friends are needed Saturday, June 5 to help complete the group’s chalk art design. Lay down some color or just stop by and show your support by saying “hi”. If you’d like to help with creation of the chalk design, try and arrive before noon. The more the merrier. Consider taking the light rail for the day and exploring all the other activities going on in downtown Denver.
