Sottile & Sottile receives AIA National Honor Award

The local Savannah urban design and architecture firm Sottile & Sottile has received a 2010 AIA National Honor Award for Urban Design for their design for the Civic Master Plan for Savannah’s East Riverfront.

 

Sottile & Sottile firm principals are Amy Sottile (M.Arch., architecture, 1997) and Christian Sottile (M.Arch., architecture, 1997).  Christian is an adjunct professor and frequent lecturer for architecture and urban design students. Additionally, the company employs SCAD alums Craig Clements (M. Arch., architecture, 1997), also an adjunct professor of architecture, and Anthony Cissell (M. Arch., architecture, 2008). Congratulations to you all!

 

The awards will be conferred this June in Miami at the AIA National Convention.

3D Animation Seminar

Egg Story Digital Arts School in Singapore is offering a three-day seminar on stereoscopic 3D film-making. Seminar Series 2 explores the broad ecosystem that surrounds this exciting new medium and the unique challenges behind its content creation. Attendees will meet industry experts such as Avatar’s Peter Hillman (Weta Digital) and Jim Heji (formerly with Electronic Arts), who will share their experience and knowledge. Networking sessions and advanced classes are also scheduled each day.

 

Venue: Red Dot Museum, Singapore

Brett Callero “Living in Dig Nation”

“Living in Dig Nation” by Brett Callero (M.F.A., painting, 2004) is currently on exhibit at Studioplex in loft #143, 659 Auburn Ave., Atlanta, Ga. The one week solo exhibition of new mixed media ends Saturday, Feb. 27. There will be an artist reception on Friday, Feb. 26 from 7 – 10 p.m. during the Studioplex Art Walk.

Photography by Laura Henderson (B.F.A., photography, 2005) will be featured in the Tour d’Epicure exhibit at Iocovozzi Gallery, 1 West Jones St., Savannah, Ga., Feb. 28. Tour d’Epicure benefits America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.

 

Master Sergeant masters Historic Preservation

“Toe to Toe” theatrical premiere

Andrew Osborne (B.F.A., film and television, 2008) worked as the Associate Producer on the feature film, “Toe to Toe” which tells the story of a love/hate relationship between senior lacrosse teammates at a competitive Washington, D.C., prep school. The film will be making its theatrical premiere in New York City on February 26 at the Village East Cinema and in Los Angeles on March 12 at the Laemmle’s Sunset 5 Theaters.

 

Rich Ponder “Numbered Walls”

“Numbered Walls” by Rich Ponder (B.F.A., photography, 1992) is currently showing at Limestone College in the A.J. Eastwood Art Galley, 1115 College Dr., Gaffney, Sc. The graphic arts exhibit features 35 recent works by Ponder and will continue through March 12. There will be an artist reception on Sunday, Feb. 21 from 1 – 2:30 p.m.

 

The Art of Weddings fundraiser

The Art of Weddings is a collaboration of Atlanta’s top wedding artists and designers and will take place on Friday, February 19 at the Bill Lowe Gallery . Created by Project Runway alum, Heidi Elnora Standridge Baker (B.F.A., fashion, 2002), The Art of Weddings is a way for Heidi to showcase her talent while giving back to her community. This year’s show will showcase not only Heidi’s 2010 bridal collection, but also the design talent of Atlanta’s top artists, chefs, event designers, florists, make-up and hair stylists, musicians, models, and  photographers. 100% of ticket sales will go directly to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama.

 

SCAD Target Grant

SCAD’s Career Services has again secured a grant from Target to support student and alumni professional development; the Winter 2010 deadline is February 26. Grants range from $25 to $300.

Guidelines for Consideration

  • Career Services and the Faculty Review Committee will select candidates based on certain criteria such as: student GPA, other extra curricular activities, long-term career goals, strength of portfolio, internship and work experience, and student essay.
  • The grant will be in the form of a payment made directly to the organization for entrance into the event.
  • Only one grant will be given to the same student/alumnus per academic year.
  • The award will be between $25.00 to $300.00.
  • All applicants will be required to write a one-page essay to apply for the grant (essay should be one or two paragraphs about the event), submit a body of work (portfolio, cd, PDF or reel) and attach a copy of the application for the event.
  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time or have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from SCAD

SCAD alum edits History Channel documentary

The History Channel documentary, “Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure,” will be showing on the network Wednesday, Feb. 17. SCAD alumnus Alex Perrault (B.F.A., illustration, 1994; B.F.A., video/film, 1994) is the senior editor of the documentary following a team of treasure hunters as they search for where Jesse James stashed his riches. Showing at 8 a.m. EST and at 2 p.m. EST.
