Gather for the closing reception of “Eye Sea Reflections” by Lillian Blades (B.F.A., painting, 1996) Sunday, Jan. 31, 2-5 p.m. at Hammonds House Museum, 503 Peeples St., Atlanta, Ga. Two short documentaries about Blades and her artwork by two different filmmakers will be screened during the reception.

“SketchREX” by Rex Hausmann (B.F.A, Painting, 2007) is showing at Hausmann Millworks, 925 W. Russell Pl., San Antonio, Texas. Opening night is Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. and the exhibit runs through Feb. 28.

New competition to award Georgia artist $50,000

The Hudgens Prize Visual Arts competition will award $50,000 and a solo exhibit at the Gwinnett County Arts Center to a Georgia artist. The competition is open to any full-time Georgia resident 18 years or older. A $30 entry fee for Hudgens Center for the Arts members and a $50 entry fee for non-members (includes one annual Artist level membership) allows the artist to submit up to five entries. Deadline in June 4. Further details available in the prospectus.

“Gendered” call for entry

Desotorow Gallery is now accepting submissions for “Gendered”, a juried exhibition featuring work that explores gender and identity. This exhibit is open to national and international artists (professional, emerging, and student). Open to works of all genres and media. Submit up to three pieces for a non-refundable entry fee of $15. Submissions due by 5 p.m. Eastern on January 29. Download the prospectus or go online for more information.

If you live in Chicago or are attending the 2010 College Art Association (CAA) conference, join us for an evening of cocktails and conversation at Emerald Loop Bar and Grill. Steps away from Michigan Avenue, State Street, the Chicago River and the Chicago Loop, Emerald’s Loop is in the heart of all the action. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to network with fellow alumni and industry professionals, and re-connect with professors from your days at SCAD.

SCAD Scholarship Gala

The SCAD Scholarship Gala fundraiser is held in Savannah and Atlanta each year to support student scholarships. The 11th Annual Savannah Scholarship Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6. The evening includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres provided by Savannah’s finest restaurant and caterers, live music by Atlanta-based band King Sized, dancing, and an open bar. The highlight of the event is, of course, a silent auction featuring original artwork created by faculty, alumni, students and friends of the college. Preview Party tickets are available for $250 per guest, and Patron Party tickets are available for $150 per guest. The Wiitles at Jepson Center for the Arts

Ryan Peoples (M.F.A., sound design, 2009), Nick Kneece (B.F.A., film and television, 2007), Stephen LeGrand (M.F.A., sound design, 2009), and Ian Vargo (B.F.A., sound design, 2007) are The Wiitles, the world’s first and only Wii Remote rock band. The Wiitles use only Nintendo Wii-motes as their instruments. Connect Savannah recently featured The Wiitles and their upcoming performance during the Pulse Festival this Saturday, Jan. 30, 2:45-4 p.m. at The Jepson Center for the Arts in Savannah, Ga.

Mutemath tickets on sale to SCAD community today

The SCAD Student Activities Council and Trustees Theater present Mutemath in concert Friday, Feb. 19, 8 p.m., at the Trustees Theater in Savannah.

 

Tickets are $15 with a valid SCAD ID, $20 for the general public, and $25 the day of the show. Tickets are on sale Thursday, Jan. 21 exclusively to the SCAD community, and will be open to the public Friday, Jan. 22.

Get Exposed™2010,  is a trade show and catwalk presentation that catapults you to where you want to be – a household name.  Design and network your way to getting in boutiques and specialty retailers.

 

Pre-selection process:
1. Submit three original sketches with photos of the finished garment.
2. Include a short bio with contact info, experience and any retailer/stockist information.

SCAD Emergency Relief Fund

On Jan. 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince. The death and injury toll is expected to be in the thousands. Several SCAD students have family members in Haiti. In response to this natural disaster, SCAD has established the SCAD Emergency Relief Fund. This fund will assist SCAD students, alumni, faculty and staff with Haitian ties or relations as they deal with this very difficult time. The university shall begin by assisting those affected within the SCAD family.
