Co-written, directed and produced by Emily Ullrich (B.F.A., video/film, 1999), “Endelezea” is a documentary about the Sarakasi Trust. Sarakasi Trust is an organization established in Nairobi, Kenya, to enhance and advance the lives of the less fortunate through the performing arts.

Photoshop CS4 Bible

Simon Abrams (B.F.A., computer art, 1995) contributed 15 out of 29 chapters of the Photoshop CS4 Bible. Thanks to a recommendation by a fellow SCAD alumnus, Abrams was selected to collaborate on the project with Stacy Cates and Dan Moughamian, both considered experts in the field of Photoshop. The book is available at Amazon.com.

 

Abrams is a flash designer at Deutsch, developing Flash-based projects for clients such as Proctor & Gamble, Kodak, Olympus, Ikea, and Tylenol. Visit his Web site at http://simonabrams.com.

Fall Scooter Raffle winner announced

With the help of Motorini/Vespa Savannah, the SCAD office of institutional advancement is proud to announce Carrie Johnson as the winner of the Fall Motorini Scooter Raffle. Carrie hales from Brewton, Ala. and is in her first year at SCAD seeking her M.F.A. in painting. The raffle generated over $2600 for the Silver Scholarship. Congratulations Carrie!

SCAD at the Bahamas International Film Festival

SCAD is well represented at this year’s Bahamas International Film Festival. Not only is SCAD a sponsor of the festival, but “Lakay”, a film by Brian Lee (B.F.A., film and television, 2009), will be screened Sunday Dec. 13, 6 p.m. at Galleria JFK Cinema, Theater 2 and Monday, Dec. 14, 6 p.m. at National Art Gallery of the Bahamas. In addition, Lavar Munroe (B.F.A., illustration, 2007) designed the poster for this year’s festval. View and learn more about the poster.

 

SCAD is also sponsoring the Art of Collaboration BIFF Discussion Panel to be held on Saturday Dec. 12, 12 p.m. at the National Performing Arts Theatre, moderated by Elliot Kotek. The festival ends Dec. 17.

Jamee Linton (B.F.A., illustration, 1999/M.F.A., painting, 2003) is featured in “Little Things 9″ group show through Dec. 27 at Guardino Gallery, 2939 NE Alberta, Portland, Oregon. Works by Jamee are also available at Bella Perla Gallery, 327 NW 9th Ave., Portland, Oregon. Jamee is also having a holiday studio sale through Dec. 31.

Vote for SCAD alumni in National Film Challenge Audience Award

Director Francis Abbey (M.A., film and television, 2005) and director of photography John Whalen (B.F.A, video/film, 1998) need your vote for their entry, “Over and Over Qualified”, to win the 2009 National Film Challenge Audience Award. Teams participating in this competition had one weekend to write, shoot and edit a short film or video and “Over and Over Qualified” has made the round of 16 finalists. Voting is open until Jan. 9, 2010.

SCAD represented at Miss USA

Cassady Lance (B.F.A., performing arts, 2008) of Savannah will compete in the 2010 Miss USA pageant April 18 in Las Vegas. Lance, a native Savannahian, is the reigning Miss Coastal Georgia USA and was most recently crowned Miss Georgia USA. Read the savannahnow.com article.
