“The Art of Devotion” by Susie Clinard (B.F.A., historic preservation, 1983) features discarded religious ephemera, prayer cards, and other household articles that would otherwise be lost. There will be a reception Thursday, Dec. 3, 6-9 p.m. at shopSCAD, 340 Bull St., Savannah, Ga. A portion of the sales from Susie’s works will go to the Thomas Square Food Pantry. Complimentary gift-wrapping and refreshments will be provided during the reception. shopSCAD is also accepting non-perishable food items for donation during December.

Design It Forward

After Christina Van Blake (B.F.A., graphic design, 1992) lost her job in a failing economy earlier this year, she got creative and developed the concept, “Design It Forward”. She distributed a press release entitled “Local designer loses job, offers services for free in exchange for three charitable acts”. She went from zero to 80 clients in just a few short months. Now Christina has launched her own business, Decor by Design, to meet the needs of her paying clients she connected with via “Design It Forward”. James Keul in 40th Annual River Road Show

James Keul (B.F.A., painting, 2003) will have paintings featured in the 40th Annual River Road Show at the Louisiana State Archives Building, Twelve United Plaza, 8585 Archives Ave., Baton Rouge, La. The show runs Dec. 1-Jan. 29, 2010. A reception will be held Dec. 6, 2-4 p.m.

The SCAD Atlanta Alumni Chapter is hosting a Graphic Design Industry Discussion Panel Thursday, Dec. 3, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Metaleap Design, 619 E. College Ave., Ste. F, Decatur, Ga. Featured panelists are José Reyes (B.F.A., graphic design, 1995), Nikolle Reyes, and a representative from Paste Magazine. Metaleap Design, owned by José and Nikolle, is a design firm focusing on print, interactive and publication design. Paste Magazine, a monthly music and entertainment publication, is a client of Metaleap Design. Discussion topics include client/agency relationship, owning your own business, and a Q&A session. Bert Jon (M.A., interior design, 2007) and Alexis Hubbard (B.F.A., interior design, 2004) have designed rooms in the “Home for the Holidays” Designer Showcase presented by The Landings on Skidaway Island. Academy Award winning producer visits Albany, Ga.

Larry Meistrch, Academy Award winner, founder of NEHST Studios, and producer of “Slingblade”, “You Can Count on Me”, and “Strangeland” will be in Albany, Ga. Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m. at The State Theater, 313 Pine Ave., Albany, Ga. Meistrch will listen to pitches for movies, television and Web in addition to screening “Article 32: The Story of the Pendleton 8″, a military documentary. Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased online. Tickets purchased at the door are $35.

Get Exposed™ 2010, a trade and fashion event, could get you closer to becoming a household name sooner than imagined. Get Exposed™ addresses the need of emerging talent who are looking to gain presence in small retailers and boutiques.

 

Pre-selection process:
1. Include 3 original sketches with photos of a finished garment
2. Include a short bio with contact info, experience and any retailer/stockist information.
