“New Lights” CD released by alumnus

Scott Bishop (B.F.A., illustration, 1995) recently released his first CD, “New Lights”, on the Hide Your Candy label. A review of the CD by Boston’s “The Noise” states the CD is “clearly a labor of love.” The CD is available at cdbaby.com, iTunes, Amazon and Napster. Bishop also executed the final CD design based on a cover concept by Jen Ahern at Ellipsis.

Corey Bayes (M.A., film and television, 2005) worked for the past year as assistant editor on the film, The Informant”, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Matt Damon. “The Informant” marks the fourth time Bayes has worked on a Soderbergh film. Go see it in a theater near you today!

polyART Show call for artwork

Calling SCAD alumni artists. You’re invited to submit artwork for The polyART Show: A Silent Auction hosted by the SCAD Atlanta Alumni Chapter. This small works show and auction will uniquely display your piece for two weeks in an 8 ½” x 11” poly bag at P’cheen—a popular Inman Park Restaurant. A celebratory cocktail reception takes place Thursday, Nov. 5; the closing silent auction is Saturday, Nov. 14.

 

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 29. To participate, simply submit any piece that will fit into an 8 ½ ” x 11” plastic bag (photo, painting, print, jewelry) to:

Attach your name and contact information to the piece for identification purposes and indicate if you wish to have your contact information made public.

Small Works 2009 call for entries

SCAD exhibitions invites SCAD students, faculty, alumni and staff to send submissions for the Small Works 2009 juried exhibition. Work must measure 18 inches or less in all directions, including the frame, if applicable. All work must be for sale, and the artist’s price may not exceed $250. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist may submit; a small, concise body of work is encouraged. Deadline for submissions is Oct. 14. To submit work for consideration, e-mail completed entries to callforentries@scad.edu using “Small Works 2009” in the subject line. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Limit your attachment size to 4MB. Entries should include the following:

  • Image(s) of individual works, image file titled to match the title of the work. Images must show completed work and images of 2-D work must incorporate the frame, if applicable.
  • Word document including full contact information (name, mailing address, e-mail address, phone number) with a checklist of work submitted, which must include full credit information (title of work, medium, dimensions, year, artist price). Artist price is marked up 50 percent for faculty, alumni and staff and 30 percent for matriculated students.
  • Word document résumé or CV including exhibition history (separated into group and solo shows), awards and honors. Do not include contact information or graphics.

Deadline Extended: 2009 SCAD Juried Photography Exhibition call for entries

Due to an error in the original e-mail sent about the 2009 Juried Photography Exhibition Call for Entries, the deadline has been extended until Sept. 28. The correct e-mail for submitting images is scadphotoshow09@gmail.com.

 

SCAD student, faculty and alumni photographers are invited to submit entries for a juried exhibition to be held in conjunction with this year’s Atlanta Celebrates Photography event. The exhibition is Oct. 17 at Atlantic Station.

 

Submission Guidelines:
Entrants may submit up to three entries in jpeg format, sized at 800 pixels on the long side. Entries are due by Sept. 28, 11:59 p.m. All selected works will need to be framed for the exhibition. If your work is selected for the exhibition, you will be notified via e-mail and be given further details. A fee will be charged to cover show expenses (approx $25) to those accepted.

 

Entries must be labeled:
Last Name_First Name_Title of Work (example: Doe_John_Awesome.jpg)

 

Along with your submissions, please include the following information:
Medium, dimensions, year, and price, if applicable.

Sadler “Octopus Tempura”

Weldele’s graphic novel becomes film

Brett Weldele (B.F.A., sequential art, 2000) will be among the guests of honor at the world premiere of “Surrogates” this Thursday night in Hollywood. “Surrogates,” an action movie starring Bruce Willis, is the film adaptation of the graphic novel illustrated by Brett. The movie hits theaters Friday, Sep. 25. Look for it in a theater near you! Read an article about Brett on the Great Falls Tribune Web site.

Spencer illustrates Saturday Evening Post cover

Britt Spencer (B.F.A., illustration, 2005) illustrated the cover of the Sep./Oct. 2009 Saturday Evening Post. Several other illustrations by Britt appear in the issue, including a six page spread with 12 spots of his caricatures supporting the cover story, “12 Innovations That Changed Our World.”
