The Borough - “Guy’s Night Out” was written and produced by Patrick Sarni (B.F.A. video/film 2005) and directed by Clay Haskell (B.F.A. video/film, 2005). Sarni and Haskell also performed in the sketch along with Jeremy Holt (B.F.A., sound design, 2005) and Kendall Smith.

Alumnus crafts handmade pipes

Olie Sylvester (B.F.A., graphic design, 1999) works as a creative and production manager for GE, but devotes his spare time to his love of tobacco smoking pipes. Olie’s line of handmade pipes, Monstrosity, is an artistic and unique approach to traditional pipe making. At www.OomPaul.com (OomPaul is a classic shape of tobacco smoking pipe) you can view his pipes and check out his podcast devoted to famous carvers from around the world. Olie is married to Venessa (Miller) Sylvester (B.F.A., art history, 1991; M.A., art history 1996) and together they make fine art. They will have a Web site up soon of their current work for sale.

Gerard Caliste ‘Magiciticy’

Gerard Caliste (B.F.A., painting, 2001) will exhibit several types of work including paintings, sculpture and clay busts as part of his exhibit, “Magiciticy”, a story about three children from New Orleans magically chosen to save the city from culture siphoning monsters living in potholes beneath the city streets. On display at Lois Lambert Gallery, Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave. E-3, Santa Monica, Calif., April 4 - May 10 with an opening reception Saturday, April 4 6-9 p.m.

Gerard Caliste (B.F.A., painting, 2001) will be a part of the “Previously on Piety” exhibit at the Contemporary Arts Center’s Lupin Foundation Gallery in New Orleans April 17-July 12. Five New Orleans artists will be represented by a single, large-scale installation. Caliste’s “Walking on Water” will be featured.
