“The Beauty of the Impossible” Exhibition by Roy LaGrone

The Gumtree Museum of Art presents “The Beauty of the Impossible,” by SCAD alumnus Roy LaGrone (M.F.A., computer art, 2000). LaGrone, a Tupelo native based in Italy, constructs photomontage and video installations addressing issues of 21st Century displacement and healing . Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. A reception is scheduled August 1, 6-8 p.m. Gallery talk with Roy LaGrone at 7pm. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

Julio Garcia donates proceeds to Statts and Williams Fund

SCAD alumnus Julio Garcia (B.F.A., painting, 1999) will graciously be donating all proceeds from his installation titled “Putting the Pieces Back Together” to the Jason Statts (B.F.A., illustration, 1996) and Dave Williams (attended SCAD, sequential art major) Fund. Statts and Williams are recovering after a shooting in Savannah’s Ardsley Park neighborhood June 28. Garcia’s work will be installed and available for purchase at the group show, “Summer Art Review” to be held at 11 W. Park Avenue, Forsyth Park, Savannah, Ga. on Saturday, July 26 from 12-10 p.m. and Sunday July 27 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Jason Statts (B.F.A., illustration, 1996) is recovering at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta after a shooting in Savannah’s Ardsley Park neighborhood June 28. David J. Williams (attended SCAD, sequential art major) was also injured in the shooting and continues to recuperate at his home in Savannah. Female filmmaker call for entry

Harley-Davidson is hosting an exciting contest for aspiring female filmmakers called “Bikes, Camera, Action!.” The Motor Company is searching for female filmmakers who can capture the sense of empowerment, freedom and adventure that is inherent when women get behind the handlebars of their very own Harley-Davidson motorcycle in a two minute short film. Producer Elisia Harkins’ (M.F.A., video/film, 1995) film. “Best Kept Secret,” has been selected as a semi-finalist for the BETJ short film competition and will air through July 27 on BETJ, an affiliate of BET. The show will air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., Wednesdays at 12 a.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

During the recent SCAD Off-Campus program to New York City, SCAD graphic design alumni from six countries gathered to reconnect over drinks and food. Brought together by SCAD professor Fathi Bakkoush, alumni from the U.S., Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, India and Gambia participated in this event.
