Cameron Sinclair Lecture!

Hey Everyone! So this Friday, October 22, at 8:00 pm is the next lecture in our series It’s All Relative: Connecting Through Architecture at the Student Center.

Cameron Sinclair is the co-founder and CEO of Architecture for Humanity, a nonprofit design services firm dedicated to building a sustainable future through the power of professional design. Sinclair has been the recipient of several esteemed awards and honors, including the TED Prize and the Bicentenary Medal by the Royal Society of Arts for his work in social and humanitarian design. It is an absolute honor to have Mr. Sinclair join our scadAIAS Lecture Series, so come on out to what’s going to be an AMAZING lecture!

Come To Another Great Lecture!

This Wednesday, October 6th, from 7:00-8:00pm at the Georgia Coastal Center, we’ll be hosting the second lecture of this years scadAIAS Lecture Series It’s All Relative: Connecting Through Architecture.

The lecturer, Tom Low, Director of town planning with Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, has managed and completed more than 100 New Urbanism Award winning projects. Lecturing on town planning, planning history, sustainability, urbanism, slow food, environmental structure, and civic engagement and design, Low is enchanted with architectural form united with principals of urbanism!

So come to the lecture at the Georgia Coastal Center, located just south of Turner House and southwest of Eichberg Hall. It’s going to be great!

Next Meeting!

Hello Everyone!

Just a reminder that our next meeting is THIS Tuesday, October 5th, at 7:45pm in Room 104 at Eichberg Hall. We’ll be discussing events coming up, like the South Quad Conference at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and eating PIZZA. Hope to see everyone there!

First Meeting . . .

. . . is going to be next Tuesday, September 21, 7:45 pm in Room 302. We’ll be discussing the exciting events planned for this quarter, including many NEW things, never attempted before by this chapter. It’s going to be a great year, and we can’t wait to see you there!

First Blog of the 2010 School Year!

Welcome back everyone! Time to start a new school year and that means lots of new events. Our first event is this Saturday (Sept. 18) the Annual Fallfest at Dyson Lawn, from 4:00-7:00 pm. The Fallfest is a big event for everyone to become acquainted with the multiple student organizations being run by SCAD students this year including the American Institute of Architecture Students.

There will be an AIAS booth setup, so come on out and mingle with the new officers and new and returning members! We’ll be handing out membership forms and selling awesome SCAD AIAS bumper stickers and t-shirts, AND as an added bonus the school is providing food and live music, so please join us and have fun!

Don’t Forget . . .

The Richard Meier lecture is coming up soon! It will be on Thursday, March 5th from 6-8 pm at the GA Tech Hotel and Conference Center. There is a reception afterwards at the High Museum from 8-10pm. The cost is $15 a person and we will be carpooling from Eichberg Hall at 1pm to head to Atlanta. If you are interested in coming but are in need of a ride, please let us know :) Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Events

IDP BOOT CAMP/INFORMATION SESSION:

  • Where: American Legion Savannah Post No 135 (118 Bull St.)
  • What: The IDP Boot Camp will be a detailed presentation from AIA’s emerging professionals discussing the essentials of the Intern Development Program (IDP) and the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE), and the roles of the intern, supervisor and mentor. In particular, the potential impact on the intern by critical changes occuring within both programs in the coming months will be discussed.
  • When: The session will begin 6:30 pm on Thursday Feburary 12, 2009

SOUTH QUAD (RICHARD MEIER LECTURE):

  • Where: Southern PolyTech in Atlanta, Ga
  • What: Richard Meier, reknowned American architect famous for his rationalist designs, will be the keynote speaker during the 2009 South Quad Conference. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and AIAS has planned to carpool to Atlanta to attended his lecture.
  • When: Thursday March 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm

1ST ANNUAL AIAS/NOMAS GOLF TOURNAMENT:

  • Where: Henderson Golf Club
  • What: AIAS and NOMAS will be hosting their first annual golf tournament fundraiser in an effort to bring local architecture, engineering, construction and interior design firms together for networking opportunities with the SCAD Building Arts students.
  • When: Tee-off will begin 11:00 am on Friday May 8, 2009
