Hello Dear Members,
I Would like to welcome you all back to school( I am only 4 weeks late! ) and congratulate you for hosting one of the BEST Forums ever. SCAD AIAS FORUM 2012 will be coined as one of the best forums ever held, and we; with the help of our school, School of Building Arts, and all Volunteers, have raised the bar to a high, and SCAD standards. Congratulations to all! I hope you all enjoyed SCAD-AIAS FORUM 2012, and took the most advantage of this great opportunity. SCAD AIAS Leadership would also like to thank any and all volunteers who greeted, welcomed, and directed their fellow visiting students to and arround our school and our beautiful city of Savannah. It couldn’t have been as great, and awesome of a Forum without the help of our GREAT and AWESOME Volunteers. So…

SCAD AIAS Election is around the corner!
Why AIAS Position: American Institute of Architecture Students is a nationally recognized organization that opens the doors of opportunity for leadership skills. The opportunities start from a classroom level and ends at nationally recognized positions. So, If you, or some one you know, have Leadership initiatives, are committed, and have aspiration, we would like to ask you to nominate them or yourself to run for one of the scad aias leadership positions. The actual Election is going to be on Monday February 25th at 8:00 pm in room 304. But AIAS is going to have an Election info session on Monday February 11th at 8:00 pm in room 304 during our regular meeting time. Here you will be given more information about the positions available, Responsibilities and expectations, and we (the current officers) will answer any questions you may have. At the end of the meeting you can nominate yourself and/or a friend. The nominations will stay open until the election day. you can also campaign throughout the week in order to get member votes if you decide to do so. All candidates will have a chance to present on the election day and general members will vote.

Get Well Soon : Scott Warner

The SCAD AIAS would like to send our thoughts, prayers and best wishes to Scott Warner (SCAD AIAS member and FORUM 2010 participant) for a speedy recovery and safe return after being hospitalized for much of the 2011 Winter Quarter.

Brad Samuels from Situ Studio

Mark your calendars for this Wednesday, February 16! The AIAS Lecture Series will be hosting Brad Samuels from Situ Studio at 8pm in the O-House Ballroom. This lecture is one not to miss out on so make sure you’re there.

Situ Studio was founded in 2005 in Brooklyn, New York, while its five partners were studying architecture at the Cooper Union. Concentrating on research, design and fabrication, the firm utilizes emerging technologies at the intersection of architecture and a variety of other disciplines. Recent projects include the design and fabrication of a series of analytical models for the Guggenheim Museum’s exhibition Frank Lloyd Wright…: From Within Outward. Other projects include the design and fabrication of the Solar Pavilions 1-3, which were installed at the CitySol Festival in New York City and were also deployed in Brooklyn and Miami over the past three years. In 2006, the firm received the Award for Excellence in Design, by the Art Commission of the City of New York. Situ Studio has exhibited work at the AIA Center for Architecture, Van Alen Institute and the Fordham University Gallery at Lincoln Center . Situ Studio’s projects have been published in The New York Times, Architectural Record, LOG, C3, Surface,The Architect’s Newspaper, Interior Design, MARK, and 30,60,90. The partners have taught at Pratt Institute, GSAPP, Columbia University and give workshops and lectures internationally.

Bradley Samuels is one of Situ Studio’s five founding members. He holds a B.A. from Vassar College in Art History and a B.Arch from the Cooper Union School of Architecture. Bradley has been a guest critic at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and has taught at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University.

LECTURE TOMORROW

Hey Everyone!

Just to remind you all, the first AIAS lecture of the Winter Quarter is tomorrow, Wednesday, January 26th, 8 PM @ the River Club. I don’t know if it’s just a 4th Year Architecture requirement or all of the Building Arts majors are involved, but you must attend four lectures every quarter as part of your studio grade. Come make this lecture one of the four!

First Meeting of the New Year!

I hope Winter Break was as good for everyone as it was for SCAD AIAS, who at the beginning of January, found out we won the bid to host FORUM 2012 in Savannah! A BIG, BIG DEAL! So, be sure to attend the first meeting of this quarter:

We’re going to be talking all about this past Forum in Toronto, the future forum in Savannah, lecture series, fundraisers, Freedom by Design, Beaux Arts Balls, Golf Tournaments, and a lot more… so be there! AND THERE WILL BE PIZZA!

Remember, our trip to Toronto for AIAS FORUM 2010 is just days away so please be sure that you have your passport and driver’s license (ID) ready! Also, please be aware that since Canada is international, you may have to to add a temporary international calling/texting plan for your cell phone unless you want to be charged extra fees. This will need to be handled through your various service providers to see which plan works best.

FORUM 2010 in Toronto is almost here!

Are you ready for the experience of a lifetime?

FORUM is the annual meeting of the AIAS and the global gathering of the architecture and design students. The event provides students with the opportunity to learn about important issues facing architectural education and the profession, to meet students, educators, and professionals with common interests, and to interact with some of today’s leading architects through keynote addresses, tours, workshops and seminars.

FORUM 2010 will be held in Toronto, Ontario on December 29, 2010-January 1, 2011 and is sure to be an amazing opportunity to connect with fellow architecture and design students from across the country. This event is sure to be unforgettable and we hope you all can be a part of it.

FORUM 2010 Toronto Video

Calling All Actors…

So, here’s the deal. The AIAS is trying to put together a video for our Forum bid coming up in December and we need people to be in the video!

Here’s the info:

Meet @ 8:00pm-8:15pm in R. 104 TODAY (Nov. 5th). We will be driving over the bridge to the Savannah Convention Center in order to film the SCAD AIAS with the Savannah fireworks display in the background. This video will be a major part of SCAD’s bid for FORUM and we really want everyone to be apart of the experience! If you cannot make it to Eichberg Hall at the designated time, please feel free to meet us across the bridge before 9:15pm. The address of the Savannah Convention Center is as follows:
