A Quick Thought

I ended my freshman winter quarter with an A in Design. :) I was super nervous about this course, but with a dedicated professor and hard work, I did it! It was a great class and taught me a lot about myself. Thanks, Prof. Waldvogel!

Here’s to success,

Jack & Jill

Went up the hill . . . Or, as in my group’s case, up the mountain and endured injuries. Our group project was a lot of fun and inventive. We took the nursery rhyne Jack and Jill and reinvented it using select images and symbols. SM, Wilson, Marc and myself got along well and came

Map

This map project was a lot of fun. We had few guidelines, so it was even more expressive. Step one was to get any map, any size, any material, and do whatever we wanted with it. ANYTHING WE WANTED. Since anything that has to do with me has to do with words and coffee, I

Sound Map (Exploration #3)

The sound map exploration was one of my favorites. We were told to sit in one location for one hour, and mark sounds relative to our location on map. I sat in the back of the Hive (yes, I was at dinner, but still). When deciding how to present my collected sounds, I thought it

ABCs & 123s!

A,B,C,D,E,F,G. . . We all know the alphabet song, but seeing the letters through unique images is a whole different thing. When we were given the task of finding the letters of the alphabet and number 0-9 as they occur in our natural environment, I was freaked out. Was I going to have to spend

Blog Inspiration

I am at SCAD to further my writing. I really admire these figures in the literary world: Jeanann Verlee http://jeanannverlee.com/ Andrea Gibson http://www.andreagibson.org/ Roger Bonair-Agard http://rogerbonair.blogspot.com/ Saul Williams http://www.saulwilliams.com/ Buddy Wakefield http://buddywakefield.com/ The Strivers Row http://www.thestriversrow.com/ They all have one thing in common- they are spoken word poets! I find that there are way more

ORDER, INCREASE, BOLD, CONGESTED, PLAYFUL, TENSION (Exploration #2)

Our second exploration was fun! We got to interpret the following 6 terms in a design using only black squares in our space: ORDER, INCREASE, BOLD, CONGESTED, PLAYFUL, TENSION. Better pictures replacing these soon, I promise! Order to me is like direction; a path for the eye to follow: Increase is growing, becoming larger (a

Repetition Grid

Second big project! For this project we had a series of steps. First, we took two shapes and had one take a bite, chomp!, out of the other. I chose a star and a circle. Second, we played with how we would place this motif in either a 1×1 or 2×2 inch square. I went

Another Poem, Folksies

Girl Types You like to be around those clunky pots and pans girls, Difficult to move around, can’t keep still, full of noise, can’t keep their lids shut girls. They let their stew boil over, making messes over things, getting my shoes wet, blowing steam and undercooked rice like baby raspberries in my face. Those

Concentration & Isolation (Exploration #1)

This past Wednesday in class, we discussed creating focal points through CONCENTRATION and ISOLATION. Your focal point in a concentration piece should be where there is a cluster of things. In isolation, the focal point, as in concentration, should stand out immediately, but because of an obvious difference from the surrounding objects. So here is my
