iPhone App for Duke University’s Digital Collections

Posted on June 22nd, 2009 in Uncategorized by acalibrary

In the Mobile Libraries blog, Gerry McKiernan announces that Duke University has made many of its digital images available through an iPhone application. Gerry McKiernan describes the service and links to a youtube video about the service.

“Durham, NC — Scholars and students who once had to travel to museums or libraries to view collections of historic images can now do so by clicking on their mobile device instead.

With the launch of DukeMobile 1.1, the Duke University Libraries now offers the most comprehensive university digital image collection specifically formatted for an iPhone or iTouch device. It includes thousands of photos and other artifacts that range from early beer advertisements to materials on San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury scene in the 1960s.

Although a growing number of scholarly institutions offer images and other material online, Duke is the first to offer collections that take advantage of the iPhone’s design, navigation and other features.

A brief [YouTube] video describing the new gateway to the collections is available.” - from Gerry McKiernan’s Mobile Libraries blog. Visit the Mobile Libraries blog at

Lookbook.nu: share your fashion designs and photography

Posted on June 15th, 2009 in Uncategorized by acalibrary

Lookbook.nu is a website dedicated to street fashion. Take a picture of a look that you created, upload it to the site, and share the colors and pieces that you used. Users can “hype” the fashions that they love and comment on them. The only catch is that the site is by invitation only, so that only quality designs are added to the site.

For more information on this site and how to post images, check out Dana Oshiro’s post on the ReadWriteWeb blog at:
