Bookmark your Favorite Images Online
Librarians want to organize (and help you organize) materials for research and inspiration. Del.icio.us, Digg, and StumbleUpon are among the more well-known social bookmarking sites that allow internet users to save, organize, and share web sites that are of interest to them. These sites remain popular with those who wish to save text, but those who wish to save and share images online have new options. Three of the most prominent of these tools include: Vi.sualize.us, FFFound!, and We Heart It! Explore these tools on your own, or ask a librarian for help. We can help you find, save, and share images easily!
Vi.sualize.us
Go to http://vi.sualize.us/ to create your own account or to view images that have been saved by other users. Images are tagged, so you can search topics from typography to architecture. You can also use RSS feeds to subscribe to images that are popular, are posted by a favorite user, or are assigned specific tags. Finally, you can embed images on your blog or comment on other users’ images. This site also offers a plug-in for the Firefox browser. Create a free account to try it!
FFFound!
Unlike Vi.sualize.us, FFFound! is by invitation only. You cannot create an account unless a current user invites you. Also, this site does not allow tags or comments. However, a fantastic feature of this site is their recommendation tool. If you select an image on FFFound! as a favorite, the site will recommend other images that you might like. Also, if you notice that your image has been posted and is in violation of your copyright, you can flag the image, and FFFound! staff will investigate.
We Heart It!
Like Vi.sualize.us, We Heart It! allows any user to join and allows users to tag and comment on images and videos. It also provides an RSS feed for popular images. You can see images that other users have noted as their favorites and can vote for your favorites also. Although this site lacks some of the functionality of Vi.sualize.us, the interface is user-friendly.
